went on a top speed run
Well I finally found a suitable (straight w/no houses around) 14 miles. I checked distance from where I could start and let 'er rip.....I let off when the speedo hit 155. Considering I had never been faster than 110....150+ was pretty fast!! I'm gonna go back out there in the next few days with a camera and get a pic of the speedo.

dang that's cool. I need to make a top speed run myself, i have a perfect road that i used for my bike last summer (182 indicated on my R1). so this summer, we'll have to see what the SS can do. the most I've gotten it up to so far was about 138 or a short straight (about 1 mile with a decent lead into it) up in the mountains

Just be sure to check the road very carefully for the entire length you plan to use immediately before. If it's anywhere there might be deer avoid dusk. I usually don't go that fast. A few years back when I was stock plus loudmouth I went 140 mph (end of third on stock A4 with 3.23) on an open stretch of interstate. Now I normally max out at like 120ish. Maybe if I hadn't taken out the front sway bar.....lol

The most i ever got my T/A up to so far has been 125, and even at 125 it didnt feel like it. I was racing a fast acura cl. This guy runs 9.0 in the 1/8 at our local track. I had my girlfriend with me along with a bunch of **** for the weekend. (we went to Disney for the weekend). Some time in the future I would love to open it up like that.

I've hit 130+ and 140+ on a few occasions, and have hit 156 once. Even at 156, it still had quite a few R's left for more speed, but I ran outta road. At those speeds, the car still felt as stable as it does at 65, and that's on stock suspension.
I'd love to fully max her out one of these days. I've read they do anywhere from 160-166 top speed. Anyone able to clarify what our terminal velocity is at the top of 5th w/ 3.42 gearing?

hit about 157 and shut it down. hit a little hump in the road and floated a little. one of the most helpless feelings ive ever had.
i wouldnt be holding a camera at those speeds. just a suggestion

yeah, around here, im a farm boy with some flat roads around. We have the local airport with no traffic that we sometimes run quarters on and the long straight 15 mile road leading out there....I LOVE IT!

My buddy topped out a T/A M6 @ 168, he used to work at a dealer, so he played quite a bit with new cars. Pretty much if I get in a bad a$$ mood I go driving and there has been many times I have been to 135.

I hit 167 in my old car...I passed a side of the road electronic radar "your speed is" sign.... and I was still accelerating....but I have a registered 167!!!
the buddy of mine that was in the car with me said that the stretch of road had that radar thing on it for like 3 years.....and he has never seen a real cop out there...so we went for it..

I have a 161 mph run documented through the speed trap on the Bonneville Salt flats; this is a land speed racing track. I was not quite at full throttle, and the car was stock except for a TR224 114 and loud mouth exhuast.
On the freeway in the same area, I've hit 145 numerous times, even in 6th gear with my present setup. Note that these cars are much faster in 5th gear than 6th gear. The last time I did this, I melted a tire and had to change it to get home. For high speed runs like this, make damn sure you have 40 psi or more in all four tires, or they will get too hot and melt. And if the tire has ever had a flat repair done on it, it's only good for 90 mph max. My tire blew a hole plug.
These cars are stable up to 180 mph. Above that, the front end starts to float unless you do the right mods. NataSSInc has been in the low 190's with his LS1 car, running a TR230 cam and long tubes.
I wouldn't go over 140 mph without at least a 4 point roll par and a 5 point harness. Make sure the windows are up all the way, and wear a snell2000 or later helmet.
