Default Does anyone elses engine "sound" change when you rev it?

My engine has always been weird. When you lay into it, somewhere late into 3k rpms, or maybe a little later, the engine tone just changes. It kind of becomes a growl. I know it was more pronounced back when I was getting false knock (putting me in the mid teens for WOT timing), but even now the exhaust tone just totally changes. A friend of mine noticed the other day and it just reminded me.

I think you may have to be more specific about the noise.

it's the change in sound that gets really deep...it's the typical sound of a v8 powered car

It's funny that you say that. That is almost exactly what the sound difference is like, when VTEC kicks in on a Honda. So that is normal?

This probably makes no sense and is totally wrong, knowing me, but it almost seems like what you are describing is the way that the revs seem to come more easily once you get it up there. The TB is open a fair amount to begin with, the engine is spinning at a decent speed and the exhaust is working to help empty the cylinders through scavenging rather than having to be pumped out. Just a random thought from someone who doesn't know much in comparison to the true techies.

Edit: It's a slow day today and I am borderline post whoring now that I look at it.
