Hey guys,
I 'am getting some new rims and tires soon, and I was gonna go with the 2006 Z06 rims (replica's are on sale now at crusinchrome.com) But now I want to the 15 inch rims A.K.A skinny's. I love the look in the back wheels but the fronts are hella small (Meaning can't take turns for beans) Some people say that If I get the rears then I have to get the fronts hella thin or else theres no point, but my car is everyday driving. Plus skinny's are hella cheap and light so I was gonna go with 15X8 in the front but people don't like that idea on a 99 Z28. I just want some opinons from you guys and your expirences with skinny's, and what I should do. Because if I get skinn'ys then more $$$ left for more mods. Currently Mac Mid Length Headers, Y-pipe, Cut out, Cold air induction, hypertech, Stage 1 Transmission w/ Shift Kit, and stock tires. Q-Mile is 13.1 (automatic) On the way 3500 torque converter and 3.73 gears

Don't get skinnies for a daily driver. You could get slicks/skinnies on different wheels for racing/taking to the track though. I have a pair of old wheels with ET streets mounted on them I slap on at the track, or if I really want traction on the street.


Edit: wait, i am totally confused by your post. It seems like you are talking about "15 x 8 skinnies"??

yea bud 15x8's are not skinnies! skinnies are like 15x4 or 3 something tiny like that. and then you have a really skinny tire on that. just buy a set of front wheels from jegs real cheap and you can still have your z06 wheels for your every day thing.then when you want to go to the track, just pop those skinnies on and your done!

I also agree dont get skinnys for a DD, but 15x8s arnt skinny. your car has 16x8 stock. i say go for it. Skinnys are 15x3.5 or so.

blkz28spt, i also have a set et streets on a set of old wheels, mine are on 16x8 painted V6 "snowflake" wheels

whats wronge with fattys and skinneys daily driving? both my babys have em...

i have a set of street rims too, but they only go on in the winter time...

i think it would be 'hella' hard to get 15x8s to fit, considering 15x3.5s take a spacer or grinding...

I daily drive with skinnies and no front sway bar and my car drives fine on the street.

I'm sure it does. BUT could you handle an emergency lane change type of action at interstate speeds? Or hit the brakes hard, possibly in the rain, and have enough traction from the skinnies to stop?

i drove a car with them and had to, and it did not want to turn...

i was considering the slicks/skinnies combo for my car...but i havent done it for the reasons mentioned above. when i get another car, theyre def. going on. that **** looks mean as hell. lol

I'm sure you do and good, safe defensive driving by an experienced driver can go a long way. The problem is the "other guy". You never know when you will have to stop on a dime to avoid an accident. I once had a drunk pull out into the middle of traffic on a highway and cause a pile up RIGHT in front of me. This was about 4.5 years ago when I drove a Taurus. If I had been in an F-body with slicks/skinnies there is no way I would have been able to swerve into the median to avoid entering the pileup. In that case I wouldn't have been injured, more than likely, but my car definately wouldn't come out of it very well. It's that type of situation that would make me want to avoid driving with skinnies ont he street TOO much.

You'll still end up being safer than a lot of other people on the road.

Cant you get 15x5's in the front........it would be skinny but not 3.5" skinny.

Slicks wear out very fast, they are very soft. They also get stuff stuck in them more easily, and they suck in the rain and aren't very good at highway speed. Actually they can be lethal if you combine highway speeds with rain. They aer not a daily driver tire. They can be driven on the street, I've done it with ET streets several times, but not daily it's just not a good idea.

Yes, it is. But daily driving you can't help but drive in rain. So long as it's not a daily driver and you can handle the rain go for it.
