Road Trip
My wife and I are going to Denver in a couple of weeks, which is a 1600 mile round trip from here. I was wondering if there was anything that I should take or look at besides the obvious before the trip. I'm really looking forward to the trip in the Z.

i took mine on a 5000 mile trip last year to montana and back, this year i plan on arizona. HELLA FUN. every morning i found a carwash and got all the bugs and road scum off the car. it really helps alot if you get to the bug bits before they have had time to setup.
anyway, for piece of mind i always have a spare serpentine belt. i've never had to use it, but its nice knowing that if i throw a belt i can be back on the road in a couple minutes.
also, its really fun to NOT take the interstate and instead take less traveled 2 lane highways. if you ride with the t-tops off the noise from other cars on the interstate is horrible, on a 2-lane, all you hear is the wind and your mill. might take a little longer to get to where you want to be, but its a nice relaxing ride instead of a constant battle against idiots on the interstate....
and just for giggles, heres a pic from my last roadtrip which was this weekend, somewhere in iowa on an abandoned 2 lane. (havent dropped the camera yet...)

thats a badass picture!
spare belt is a good idea if you have it. bring a few tools as well.
also, if you have aftermarket lug nuts on your car, make SURE that the stock lug wrench will remove them, and make SURE that the lug wrench will fit inside the recess on the wheel and be able to remove it.
my new lugs on my TTII's dont fit the stock wrench so i have a 1/2" ratchet, deep socket to fit lugs, and an extension, in a bag in my trunk. i also noticed that my wheel lock key IS NOT THE SAME SIZE as the rest of the ******* lugs, so i have to have TWO DIFFERENT sockets int he bag
i put them in one of those klein zip-up tool pouches with some red rags wrapped around them to prevent rattles.

I agree with badhoopty on the serpentine belt. I would also buy a cheap bra, I drove from Denver to NJ a couple times and I have some chips on the front of the car. Basic tools and a ratchet set would be good to have.

Report back to us how much slower your car gets, way up at this altitude.
I need to make me a sea-level trip.
(Now I feel like a party pooper) Have fun on your trip!

Christos where in Centennial do you live? I just moved from Denver. I lived on Pagosa Way off of Buckley. Sorry to highjack. LS1 Hawkeye where do you live. I don't know where the home of the Hawks is.

If you have a concealed carry permit issued in certain states, there are other states that will honor it meaning you can pack fully loaded within reach and concealed.
Having lived in Iowa for a while (like 20 years) I know that getting a permit is rather difficult - it's totally up to the sheriff - if he thinks you have a good reason for it, or if he's your buddy, you can probably get one. In Texas, however, if you're not a felon, you can have one - much better system in my opinion.
But it's up you the individual to do the homework - there are plenty of pages out there to tell you where and how you can carry a gun in a particular state.
Personally I wouldn't travel without one.
EDIT - Don't get confused by where I used to live, or where I live now - I'm originally from Nebraska and am a Husker fan.

i see your point(even though in the trunk dont fly in VA either i forgot exactly how but there is some crazy hoops you have to jump thru to get one transported here... your best bet is to sell the one you have and buy one in VA)
but what good does it do in the trunk?unloaded? if you have time to walk to unlock your trunk, open the case, get the gun, unlock the trigger, open your ammo bag, load a clip and feed a round... then is it really an emergancey?
i mean unless you happen to drive by a bank and see it getting robbed and want to play the hero....
dont get me wronge, i am all for responcable people carrying guns... outlaws might think twice about robbing someone if they knew there was a 75% chance that person is armed...
