can you guys please help me out with this.
my friends dad has an 02 sierra denali. the kid has been argueing with me for months that it has the ls2 engine in it. "the mechanic said its the same engine as the new corvette". the only LS block ive ever heard of being factory dropped into something remotely being a truck was the chevy ssr, and that didnt come out til 04. first off, the ls2 wasnt even out in 2002, secondly the denali has the vortec 6000 in it. can you guys just post back so i can win the $100 i bet this kid that the truck does not have an ls2 in. thanks alot.

The 2002 Sierra Denali NEVER came from the factory with an LS2.
NEVER. The LS2 was not debuted until 2005 in the Corvette.
It's remotely plausible that the kid's father has since had an LS2 installed in there, as they are available to the public, but it never came with one in the first place. First SUV with the LS2 is the 2006 Trailblazer SS, which is not available yet.
Enjoy your $100.00

Assuming it the orginal enigine.
It's got a gen III engine in it. Gen III is based off the LS1 (LS1, LS6, Vortec 4.8, 5.3, 6.0). The only thing it might share with an LS2, gen IV, is 6.0L displacement. And its not the same in anyway to whats in either the C5 or C6, 300 hp vs. 350hp and 400 hp respectively.

If it's stock, it's NOT an LS2. Or an LS1. One mistake people make is calling any Gen III V8 an LSx, but they aren't.
For example, an LS1 is the 5.7 liter all aluminum version and only came in F-bodies, vettes and the GTO.

Here's another to help you get to 25
Unless it was installed AFTER he bought the Denali, there is no way he has an LS2 in there. The LS2 wasn't even out in 2002, so no way, no how, did it come from the factory with one.
So go tell him he hasn't got a clue, and get your $100

chaulk up another one, cause there ain't no way in hell its factory furbished with an LS2. Like they said the motor was still being developed in 2002, not to mention it wouldn't be very useful in a truck made for towing, since it is an engine designed for going fast and accelerating quickly. It isnt designed to be a low-end torque towing engine. It simply wouldn't be practical.... Put that 100 dollars aside for a down payment on an f-body of ur own!! (referring to ur name....)
