This is now twice I filled up with the check gauges light on and around 13.0-13.3 gallons filled her up...wtf? Very accurate I must say. I love GM
Oh well, made me realize I'm getting better gas mileage than I thought

yeah, I drove with the check engine light on for 60+ miles, I put in 15.2 gallons after that and I was pretty scared but I was in the middle of Nevada and had no choice, so...I concur that the check engine light comes on way too early.

If i'm not mistaken,
gm did this on purpose... the light comes on when you have 2-2.5 gallons left... seems so many idiots dont understand that when you get below 1/4 tank you need gas, that GM had to make it read 0 even though you have some gas left, just so there would not be a nation wide epidemic of morons stranded on the side of the road....
i still know people who see just how far BELOW empty they can go before they run out....

The fuel gauge on most cars reads empty even when there are still 2 - 2.5 galons left. Its just like jaberwaki said. When you get low on fuel, the display between the speedo and tach on Audi's actually tells you how many miles you have left until it runs empty.

I know you still have gas left on "e" but I was just shocked how much gas was left after the "check gauges" light came on.

There is a neat little option in the EFILive Flashscan tuning package that shows the fuel guage calibration and allows you to change it also. Here is a little picture of the calibration from a 2001 Camaro. The percentage on the side of the chart is the fuel guage needle position. The percentage on the bottom of the chart is fuel level, 0% being full and 100% being completely empty. Interesting stuff.
Like mentioned above GM did this on purpose to keep people from running low or out of fuel. The electric fuel pump relies on fuel to help keep it cool and running low is not good for the pump.
