There have been several posts I've seen about this. I've heard people claim stock we can get 167-168, I've only been 135ish but I was definitly still climbing when I let off.

if you have not removed the speed limiter, the copmputer will shut off your fuel at 162mph. The car is capable of more, ESP when modded, but that's when the gas cuts out.

People ask me how fast my car would go once in awhile. All I can say is that I don't know, they are supposed to go 160's stock so maybe 180 something? I don't know, you need a bit of power to go that fast. Speedometer doesn't go past 155, what the hell is up with that? Not that you can count on it being very accurate anyway...

I had a 3rd gen with 3.73 and an A4. Hit 144 roughly in OD...was at about 4400rpm's, so it still have 5-10 mph in it, was climbing but I didn't want to pop the motor since redline was 5000 on the 305TBI.

I've gotten my car up to 145 on several occasions and still had to room to go as the car was still pulling strong, and at a stand still on the dyno my car turned 157 mph @ 5700 rpm in 3rd gear(A4 tranny w/ 2.73 gears).

162 if you have not touched the computer. I'd say you should be able to see high 160s or low 170s, given you don't run out of gear before that (with your 3.73s)

When I was having transmission problems. I had to take almost every gear to the redline in order for it to shift. I had 2nd at 95. But that was 2nd. I'de imagine it to be pretty high.

i ran a 98z with 3.23 a4 to the fuel cut off (about 160) my ws6 has the same gears but it feels much more secure at those speeds than the z-28 was. ive had the ws6 to 150 still pulling strong
if your going to modify any part of your car for performance purposes please upgrade your brakes first. things happen really fast at triple digit speeds. we want to hear about it. not read about it or see it on the news that some dumbass is a Darwin award nominee for suicide because he has to much go but not enough whoa.

Not too long ago I took my A4 conv TA up to 150 on the freeway. I had to let up because I was running out of straight road, but my car really struggled for the last 10 mph. All I have is KN filter, SLP lid, and the free ram air mod. If I'm supposed to be able to go 160+ stock, I wonder what happened. Could it be the convertible's (lack of) aerodynamics (top was up obviously) or perhaps it was too windy?

The convertible couldn't have helped. Going max speed takes a long time in any car, usually the last little bit is very difficult to get. 150 would be a walk in the park for me. Get bolt-ons and a cam and it'll pull so much stronger up top.
