Default low trap speed?

I'm starting to get pissed.

My car is a 2002 SS M6 with about 8900 miles. I bought it at 7500. I've had it to to the track 3 times so far, my best run is 13.7 @ 103.5. Times range from 14.1 to 13.7 and mph 102.5 to 103.6. 60 ft is in the 2.1 to 2.3 range.

The car seems to run strong, launching just off idle with some wheelspin, and pulls hard on top(feels like it does, anyway).I'm shifting just short of the rev limiter, not powershifting, but shifting pretty fast. The only other thing is that when I hit second gear it tends to spin all the way into third. My 1/8 mile is just around 9.0 at 80mph or just lower. I know this is hurting 1/8 and 1/4 et, but the mph is low.

Just before the last trip to the track, I did MTI lid,SLP bellows, and free ram air. Also installed Pro 5.0. There seemed to be an improvement, but my best mph was the first trip to the track when it was colder.(Island Dragway in NJ)

Any input would be appreciated. Is it a dog? Do I need more miles? Is it my crap driving? I'm tired of reading "yeah dude my first time at the track and I ran 13.0 at 109. Is this fast????. Especially 01 ,02 car with an M6. It seem like f***in old ladies towing boat trailers are trapping at least 107 in my car!!

Sorry for the long post. Thanks for any reponses.

The key to good 1/4 mile MPH w/your car is cooler weather and low humidity. As the summer ends, and fall arrives w/good air and lower temps, watch your trap speeds climb. All these cars lay down some in the hot, humid weather. Bolt some radial drag tires on the car for some big traction and 60' time improvements and you will be a happy camper, especially when you hit Atco in some 50 degree weather.... WJ

You need to learn to drive better. You WILL not get any good times spinning 2nd gear all the way to third. Nor will you get a decent time with a 60' above 2.0. Try letting out of it a little in 2nd to get more traction. Roll into the throttle instead of stomping on it. Same goes for your launch. When you are launching try to roll into it, while playing with the clutch instead of dumping the clutch and stomping on the gas.

Get some traction and some good air. I also had went to Island at around 89 degrees. Best trap for me there was 104.

103 does seem alittle low since you have a few boltons, my 2000 car trapped at 109mph bone stock. I think WJ SOM SS is right, wait till fall and give it a try again.

Thanks for the replies so far. I'll probably get down to Englishtown or Atco in the fall. I live close to to Island Dragway.

I've analyzed my time slips, and I think it may be my launch technique. Obviously, the 60ft needs to come down for better ET's. But with my low RPM launch, it seems like I'm in 1st gear forever, starting off low in the power band. This may be putting me behind the acceleration curve. I may try using more RPM and slipping the clutch.

Thanks again for the advice. I really like the my camaro. I just didn't want to think I was starting off with a car that was at the very low end of the factory power output. I'll keep practicing.

Best MPH 103.68 BEFORE the bolt on's. Completely stock.

2.25 60 ft,9.225 1/8 at 78.96 and 14.019 et 103.68 trap. Best et before bolt on's 13.8 @ 103.49. After 13.7 @ 103.5 . I believe I had at least a 13.6 going on my last run but I missed third.

I've only been back once since the lid, bellows, etc, but it was HOT. I'm sure I'll run faster in the fall, but I don't know how much. 109 MPH seems like a long way from 103.5

if you dont know what the track DA is when you run then you cant really judge much of anything....

you also cant tell anything about your car if you cant drive it....

get a set of REAL tires as your next purchase and your times will change ALOT... and find out what the DA at the track is when you run... ask around...SOMEONE will know....
the more professional there car looks the better chance they know what the DA's are that day

It does seem off. I ran 13.40 @ 108.73 my first time out at Englishtown. It was in the upper 60's that friday night. I'll see what she runs on Sunday in the heat. I never spun in second, maybe a slight chirp but never spun. I think the track was poorly preped.

Weather plays a major role. You want mid 50s a baromerter above 30.05,and lower humidty.

For reference, I'm running 13.7x @ 105 with the 7000ft+ density altitudes here. My car makes around 260-270rwhp in those conditions. I believe some better driving is needed.

I wouldnt worry about it. Go when the weather is good and not every car is going to be a freak and have 105-108mph. MyZ stock was only 102-103. 13.5 1/4 times. Your launch definatly has alot to do with it though.
