Default did i get ripped off?

so my car needed some repairs and my dad said he would pay if we took it to the dealer (i know i wouldnt have done it but he said thats they only way he would pay).

they charged:

$375 for rear pinoin leak. said it cost more because they had to move the aftermarket exhaust??? wtf i dont get that one.

$355 for front brakes

$1020 for steering rack because my power steering was leaking.

so is that really a bad deal or does it just seem so to me?

thanks a lot

that was WAYYYYYYYYYY to much for a rack and pinion install man. the rack is < 300 bucks.

it took us like 5 hours to do mine.

at 70 bucks and hour for labor thats only 350 more.

damn man you got f-ed

Sounds pricey to me but you must remember you're paying labor fees too. Anywhere from $55-$75 an hour depending on the garage. How long was the car there and being worked on? You're probably looking at about 5 - 6 hours work and/or they charged you book time on it. Plus, you pay a PREMIUM at dealerships for thier parts. Example: Z06 Corvette clutch kit (includes clutch plate, pressure plate and flywheel). Dealer retail on it is near $500...or more while dealer wholesale to business customers is like $325. Another example: 2000 Monte Carlo turn signal switch (stalk) w/ cruise - dealer retail: $490 dealer wholesale: $275.00

thanks a lot guys thats what i figured. but hey i told my dad they were ripping us off but for some reason he will only let the dealer work on his cars. i on the other hand avoid them at all cost. but since he said he would pay for it i guess i cant really complain.

My dad is the same way...

The alternator died in my Grand Prix GTP, (like a 20 minute job, with the alt being $99 at an auto parts store including core charge). I was going to go pick one up, but he said we didn't have time to fool with it so he had me take it to a local mechanic... total, $300.

I'm sure glad he paid, because I'd have crapped myself if I had to pay that much for something that took 20 minutes.

well this is just great i get home from the dealer today and now the car wonders all over the road pulls to the right (we had it "aligned" and when the shifter is in gear it has about 2 inches of play in it. i swear i almost went back and started shooting. by the time i got back there the guy had already left. does anyone know what could be the problem with the shifter and all? i swear i would have paid to take it somewhere else if i knew this crap wouldve happened.

your shifter has.."play" in it while its in gear???

yeh thats definatly not good... sounds like a broken shifter...cause i cant think of anyway else it would have play in it while in gear...
