Default Insurance rape in NY

Well, i just did some research into what insurance will cost me on a 00 SS. I have pristine record. Im 22. Never a ticket or even a fender bender. Been insured for 5 years, and never even ONE claim. They want 2,785 per 6 months with 500 down!! Thats 464 a month NOT including the 500 down. For me, this is just unaffordable.

Anyone else in the new york area around my age with an LS1? Ide really like to hear what rates others my age in NY are paying and what companies your using.

I went to progressive.com and all thier quotes were more than what Allstate (my ins. co.) quoted me. 2,785 per 6 w/ 500 down.

If this is not going to be your daily driver, I would look into an occasional driver policy. I've got my SS insured as a 5000 mile per year vehicle, and the insurance is less than 100 per month with all-state. Regular insurance is ridiculous on these cars. If the SS is going to be your primary transportation, it might even be chepear to insure a beater as your DD, and the SS as an occasional driver. Both insurance payments might be cheaper than the $464 per month. I hear ya on the unaffordable insurance, though, I would not be able to afford mine at my age without the Occ. Driver. The only downside is I can't drive the car all year round. Not that it would be of much use Dec-March anwyays...

well, the funny part is, it would be my daily driver. And even though it would be my daily driver, it would never see over 5,000 miles in a year. I work literally around the block, and round trip to work is 2 miles. Im gonna have to call ALstate tomorrow to see if something can be done. I refuse to let these ins. co. keep me from getting the car i want.

Hopefully they can work with you on something. I know that the policy I have states there must be another vehicle for every driver in the house, but they probably have other policies as well. Ins. kept me from getting an '01 GT a few years back, but that's probably a good thing!

yes. I got the quote from my currant insurance company. I then went on the net and got about 5 other quotes. all the other quotes (progressive.com etc...) were MORE than what my existing insurance company (allstate) wants.

I might try this under 5K miles per year thing... see if they'll cut me some slack concidering i dont drive veryfar.

anyone else taking up the pooper by these thiefs?

i could understand these prices if i had been in accidents, or filed claims, or had speeding tickets etc.. but i've had, and still have a FLAWLESS record for 6 years... and on top of that i have 2 drivers ed classes under my belt.

"Oh Mr.Allstate, this is what i think of you... "

I'm in Rochester, NY and use Geico. I pay about $1600 a year with one accident on my record. But I'm 36 and married. If I recall right the insurance for single males drops considerably at 25. If you are a married male then it drops big at 21. After 25 it's all about your driving record.

So if Geico was not on the quoted list then give them a call. Otherwise you have two choices. Bite the bullet till your 25 or run to the alter and get married to save on car insurance

Good luck

Just registered here cuz I had to comment on this. Anyway don't forget that insurance companies are also using your credit history to figure our premium. Your score is low your premiums get adjusted as accordingly. Not 100% of all states do it but most it is the rule more than the exception.

What's your deductable. I have mine at 500 and it did "good" things $$ wise.

J.

Try Metropolitan (MetLife). I've only got the '00 TA insured with collision and I'm paying $920 a year at the ripe age of 26 (that's right, a year, $470 every six months - how do you all like that one...)

Your over 24. He's not. He'll never get anywhere near that rate until he hits 25 or gets married. Even then he'd probably need a perfect driving record and near perfect credit score (forgot about that affecting insurance these days). That's a pretty nice deal you got there.

I understand he's under 25 and single, I was just offering another place to check. Back when I was 24 and had the car insured it still was only 1400 bones a year.

Try e-surance. I have been searching for a new policy since I recently turned 21 and thats the best full coverage I've found so far . ... 930 bucks every six months. Not too bad.

I'm in NY and I've had one accident, no speeding tickets. I'll be 25 soon...can't wait...I have a 2003 Impala and a 2002 Z28. My commute is 50 miles one way and I pay about $4000 a year with Geico. Other companies wanted that for just the Z28.

I pay 210 a month which is 1260 Which I thought was bad on my 98 Formula, I'm 20 with one fender bender, I have the 10000 miles a year thing on mine, But I also own a 89 Chevy Silverodo so it gives me a mulit discount. Insurance sucks anyway you look at it sorry to hear there raping you so bad

Ok

I read this post and I HAD to comment.

I bought my 02 Camaro Z28 on Halloween 2004, being 22 (now 23 as of June).

Insured in CT, 1 ticket in 2001 for 11 mph over the speed limit

No claims.

Progressive, two local companies, and State Farm on my 02 Z28 wanted from 2500$ per 6 months and Progressive wanted 4000$ per 6 months

I called up Geico, and with $300,000/$300,000 coverage, $100,000 property, and full glass was 1400$ per 6 months... now we're getting better.

With this insurance I went ahead and bought my Camaro. Soon thereafter I picked up a 1993 Honda Civic LX 4dr for $1150 for a daily driver to work (I-84 in Hartford is ) and put Collision/Comprehensive (all have $500/$500 deductibles) on the Civic, and listed it as my daily driver. With the Camaro as a pleasure vehicle and the Civic as my DD, and with the multi-vehicle discount and as a 'preferred member' (having only 1 ticket and 0 claims) My insurance is now 2100$ a year, or $1050 per 6 months.

When I turn 25, it'll be about 1600$ a year, or $800 a month. (I found this out by doing the online quote system with my age listed as 25).

At the time I had 0 credit also, not bad, just no credit since I just graduated from College, and I still got these insurance rates.

Hope this was helpful.. and Geico was the only company to give me that low of a rate... 15 minutes well spent
