i only drove about 20 miles for C5 FRC.

but i've driven 400 miles round trip for an LS1 engine. my buddy has a typhoon, and he's dropping in the ls1 and doing a single turbo set up.

1350 miles

I flew to the east coast from Kansas City then drove it home from there it was a 30 hr round trip from door to door. I was tired but went to bed with a smile on my face.

Even factoring the gas, plane ticket and food it was still the best deal i found after 2 months of looking. That was 4 years ago and i still love my ride.

I traveled roughly 2-2 1/2 hours, one way, to get mine. I would have driven farther knowing the quality of the car now...

I did, the fly out drive back deal. with a round trip of about 1700 miles (making it a 850 mile drive home). I had paypaled the seller a $500 deposit mid-week. I then bought a one-way plane-ticket from Portland ME to Detroit MI, which I ended up getting on priceline with a $150 Bid which was about a $100 savings.

I flew out Sunday afternoon, making arrangments with the seller to meet me at the airport. The seller was great to work with and aggreed to do the deal right there in a parking lot on Airport property. The only hiccup was the previous day, my bank would not give me the $8000 cash withdrawl, beingit was a Saturday I would have clean the branch out. So I had to settle for a certified cashier's check This made the seller and his girlfriend understandably nervous given all the scams that go on.

So our arrangement, remember this was around 9pm Sunday evening, was that they would filled out a bill of sale to me and gave me a copy of the Title, which let me know they owned the car and was clean, and they let me drive back to Maine on their Michigan plate, but under my insurance. I let them hold onto the acctual Title, which they were to fedex to me the next day after their bank confirmed the Certifed check was legit and covered.

The whole transaction worked out great, and should have cost me less than $300 (Airfair, Gas, tolls, and snacks), at least half of what shipping would have cost. I had even headed back that evening, to avoid traffic and get the jump on the expected 12 hour return trip. But it all fell apart at about 2am, an hour or so past Toledo, I ran over some debris in the road, blowing my right front tire and damaging the right rear, putting a huge bubble in the sidewall. This added an $85 tow, a $65 Hotel room, and two brand new Goodyear F1s at $275, and I didn't get back on the road until 2pm Monday afternoon.

So in the end it cost me more than shipping would have, but I did end up with two brand new F1s which the car actually needed, and given that I almost never buy new tires, that will end up being something special, I'm just lucky I had the extra cash in hand for just such an emergancy.

Looking back I did actually really enjoy the chance to take this great (and new to me) Camaro SS on a get aquainted high-speed solo road-trip. Which ended up making the whole trip worth it, and I would definitley do it that way again for a similar, newer and reliable vehicle, I don't think I would take the chance on road-tripping an older classic type vehicle, whose reliablity I wasn't familiar with.

Anyway that is how I got my current 2000 SS,

6 years ago, I travelled about 100 miles to towed back a wreck 96 Z28 that I rebuilt. 3 years ago I drove from ME to Pittsburg PA, in a Blizzard in Febuary to trailer back a 02 Kawi ZX-12R, which I only did because it was exactly the Year, Color, and had the MODS that I was looking for. Would never have made that trip otherwise.

But Yeah I am definitely willing to travel most any distance if I have found the vehicle I want. I would rather do that than rely on shipping, and I really do enjoy the adventure of it.

No B.S. I was looking for weeks posted a "Looking for an LT1" to match my other car on a local board, no response.
Looked through the papers and wasnt seeing any LT1 in even decent shape, hate to say it but started looking for a "Fox Body" stang rode to like 7 people houses between 5 Camaros and 2 stangs various ranges between 200 miles to 25miles prives from 5-7k for like a month looking for a diamond in the rough.
Was on my way to get 7k from the bank for a supercharged 89 old school mullet stang.
Went by what us "Military people" call the "lemon lot" basic car lot on post for military members to put cars for sale, and there sits a 98 Z with 6k obo on the window, shuck and jive a bit have to fix this and that, hes getting ready to deploy yadda yadda.
I own a 98 Z 4k cash! 100k miles on the clock leather/t-tops.

Over 300 miles, about 5 hours one way. Best trip I've taken in my life. Got a heck of a deal, every option I wanted, and a color that I'd probably never see on another Z28 in my life.

I would have went to the West Coast to get this thing, but I happened to run into someone in my town with this one. I even know what dealership it came from and what techs worked on it. Luck of the draw I guess.

I went from Wauseon, Ohio to Waterford, Michigan. About a 280 mile drive and 2 hours. It was the best trip home I've ever had it was well worth it for the LS1.

The 2000 went about 300 miles round trip and when I sold it the buyer flew in 1200 miles and drove it home.

The 2001 SS found it 100 mile round trip. Sold it to a board member that flew in near 1400 miles and drove it home.

The 1999 C5 found it local and sold it local.

The 2002 found it at 220 mile round trip. Sold it to a lady and her 17 year old daughter that flew in 1400 miles and vacationed in Florida a week and drove it home.

The 1998 C5 flew 1350 miles to Syracuse and bought it from a Forum member and drove it straight home.

Found the 2002 SOM SS in North Carolina. Drove the 1998 C5 900 miles up and traded and drove the 2002 SOM SS straight thru back home.

I fly 4158 to buy my WS6- then fly back 4158mls then came back a month later and drive the car 600mls to Newark and fly back again. Then drive it 200mls from the port home. So I drived+flyed 4158*4 + 600mls + 200mls = 17432 mls for my dream car . But it was WORTH!!

Here's the story https://ls1tech.com/forums/convertible-vehicles/547559-got-my-vert-home-germany-zaino-pics-56k-beware.html .

BTW- Can someone beat my mls ?

a little over 550 miles round trip for me. drove to chicago, bought off ebay (SCARY), but came out ok. we went to work, night shift, worked our 8.5 hours, drove hour home, then buddy and i took off for our trip. we didn't even stop for food-too tired. overall we were up around 30-32 hours straight. all this for a 02 ws6, 33kmiles. would i do it again, i dunno, i like to see what i'm buying, instead of paying for it, then show up at my door. so probably yeah, id do it again.
