Yes they exist. I have a buddy with a 2001 firebird formula that runs high 12's completely stock. My 2005 GTO hangs really well with my 04 so that thing moves pretty well also.

I've always noticed the 'factory freaks' tend to lose a lot of their advantage once they start modding But I have seen quite a few high numbers come out of completely stock fbodys.

Given the factory ratings, every LS1 f-body is a factory freak!!!
Seriously, a buddy of mine own a 97 Z28 LT1 30th Ann. with every possible bolt-ons except gears (stock 10 bolts and 3.42's), stock cam and heads, with only 1.6 RR as an internal mod. He don't drag race but we did a street race once.
We ended up dead even ...
... and I have a baby-cammed 382 with ported stock LS1 heads, 12 bolts (3.73's), full suspension mods, lt headers with stock dual-dual exhaust, running mid 12's with dr's.
I know I'm certainly not the best driver around here, and my 12 bolts cost me a bit more power over his 10 bolts, but I was certain it was to be an easy kill for me.
Let's just say that I was stunned by his car's performance.

I think the better question is.. what would make any (new ) car a factory freak?? I was under the impression they all roll off an assembly line and all have the same parts for that year/make or so timespan. The dyno doesn't lie. How can two cars on the same dyno make such different #'s in stock trim? Is it the weather, did they build the motor a little loose that day, more compression?? Personaly I don't believe in factory freaks, never seen one

would GM's questionable quality control have anything to do with it?? Personally I think it has alot to do with people's assumption "...ahhh it just a 350..." Then they go for a ride and cannot believe how near stock it is (catback, lid, FRA) and how hard they run at least in auto form. Everytime I am hangin out SOMEONE gives me **** for it being an auto. Does anyone else have everyone underestimating their LS1s???
