I have an A4 and again got it because it was a good deal. I'm hopefully doing an M6 swap soon. I normally drive a lil over the speed limit. I miss shifting out of turns. I feel as if Im just plowing through turns with no control? Mods below.

I previously owned a auto, albeit was a v6 camaro, but I always wanted a manual. I love the m6. I enjoy shifting, even stop and go traffic doesn't bother me, even with the big cam.

Nope, but I knew A4s were faster before I bought the M6 (both the '94 and the '99). I've only owned one automatic, an '81 cutlass I dropped a Chevy 383/TH350 into.

If given the chance to have your trans swapped and everything else kept the same, would you do it? Please list your mods and driving conditions as well, thanks!

In the past, I had always said I wish I'd gone with an m6, but now Im happy I have an auto. Tranny grabs good and better tires make the car a better all-around car.

I was kinda dissapointed with my auto when I first got my car. Then I added 3.73 gears, a 3k stall converter, and a transgo shift kit, now I wouldn't have it any other way. The only major dissapointment was the 40 and 70 mph punch (felt like my wife's 4 banger cougar). But not anymore.

got my A4 because it was a great deal, but I'm glad I have it due to the amount of time I spend in traffic. Of course there are days that I wish I had a manual just because its more fun. It really all depends on how practical it is to you

My short answer: M6 for driving + fun factor; A4 for the track.

A4 here and you couldn't pay me to swap for a M6. Once I saw what high stalled Autos could do at the track (and on the stock 10 bolt), I was sold. In a perfect world I would have a bolt-on M6 to pull the trailer holding my heavily modded A3 but this is not in my financial reality

Automatic + stall + sticky tires = one sad look on the M6 guys face as he tries like hell to catch up after you blew him away on the 60' and 1/8 But then again if they catch you on the highway heading home from the track you will be in a world of hurt as they can kick our butts there and use less gas doing it

But I love to drag race so I'm biased. I'd love to see Ronnie Dukes reaction to someone telling him "real men row thier own". That would be priceless

For the street M6 all the way.

For the street/strip A4 all the way.

For Strip only A2/A3 big time.

But as long as you have an LS1 you all ready made a good choice regardless of which transmission is behind it IMO.

Same here. I have been asked a few times how I can do stop and go driving with a big cam. For some reason it has never bothered me. No regrets on getting an M6.

I've had both. I like both. Driving hard and shifting fast feels great, but it gets real old rowing through the gears in traffic. I have an auto now and no regrets.

I've got an auto and I love it. Sometimes I feel like shifting on my time, so I do just that... I stick it in whatever gear I feel like putting it in and I shift whenever I feel like shifting. Yeah, it's supposed to be bad for the tranny, blah blah blah. Doesn't stop me, I didn't get that thing built to be a *****.

Then "**** its probalby an a4" cause most verts are to my suprise it was a M6 so i snacthed it up. put 10K on it since mid-march I love it i live in a suburb/rural area so not a lot of stop and go. i love that 6th almost 30mpg when im cruising

I wouldn't take an auto ever again in any f-body. I've owned two 383 sbc thirdgens with autos;my last one was a 390rwhp engine with a 3200 vig convetor and a pro-built tranny. The auto worked great at the strip just as a stalled auto would in an ls1 but there is really no comparison to the instant power avaiable at any rpm that you get out of a six-speed car. Ls1 or whatever. My dad recently put a lt1 six-speed into his 406 89 Iroc and it is way more fun than with the auto especially since it has a huge solid roller and a 3.45 rearend.

About shifting in traffic , once you do it for awhile, it becomes habbitual, just like smoking crack. j/k But really I look foward to shifting even before I get in my car. I guess it's all those years of driving autos in the past.

I've owned two A4 f body's and the GTO is an M6. I like the M6 in the gto better than the M6 in the f body's, the closer gearing is a lot of fun. I really don't care which i drive.

I got my a4 WS6 for a reason - I am a lazy driver and would take an A4 anyday over an M6 but I am probably in the minority

My SS is the first manual I've ever driven, and I have so much fun with it that I want to convert my daily driver to MT.

I dont regret the A4, although it'd be nice to have an M6, but im working on building a forged cam/sprayed motor now and i think the auto would go best with it. Sure a 6-speed is alot more fun, but i think its better for me to not have to worry about missing shifts, and blowing up a rear and having to put 2500 into a 12bolt. Hopefully my 10bolt will last awhile but who knows. And i drive my friends m6 if im having stick w/drawls!

I always had auto thirdgens and still have my auto 91, but wanted another toy to play with on the weekends and nights with less traffic so i got a m6 01 ws6. since i am new to shifting gears i am worried about stalling alot in traffic causing problems, thats the hardest part for me its starting off up hills.
