Default Go forthe LS1

Before I had this 99 Z28 LS1 I had a 95 Z28 LT1 for 2 years, the LT1 was good but the LS1 is better. both my cars A4.

Both my cars had 80k miles on them but the lS1 being newer feels a lot better and things are not so worn out as the older car

well it all depends on what you still want. The funner car to drive LT1 bc it make peak torque at like 2000rpm apposed to the LS1 45000 rpm but faster LS1 with out a doubt

Are you kidding? Peak torque @ (it's actually 2,300 rpm) is still not as thrilling as a seamless surge of power that doesn't tail off until well past time to shift. My LT1 seems to taper off when it's nearing 5,000 rpm, my LS1 even when stock felt like a beast that wanted to pull to 7,000 rpm without worry.

The torque @ 2,300 rpm is weak sauce compared too a streaking tachometer. And HONESTLY the LS feels just as strong as the LT down low too.

i would get neither....save your money..and buy a lower mileage LS1

Yeah the lt1 may make its peak torque at a lower rpm but the ls1 still makes more torque at every rpm. even at 2000rpm.

Hate to be a parrot, but just like everyone else I'd say wait and get a lower mile LS1. And believe me, I was driving a '94 LT1 that I bought with 160k on the odo. and I was fixing things left and right, not to mention the typical F-Body driving rattles were seemingly exponentiated. We ended up having to rebuild the thing because it started throwing white smoke... Propylene Glycol = not good for fuel

allright my parents are letting me take a loan out an i have the chance to buy a 2000 Trans am, pewter, 60,000 miles, auto, t-tops, its a very clean car, they want 10,000 for it and its in illinois, should i buy it or not

Sounds like a resonable price for a 2000 Trans Am, if it's what you want go for it. Make sure you check out the insurance cost first ( if you haven't done so already)

Take someone with you who is either a mechanic or an F/ body owner who knows a bit about them.

A 2000 Trans Am with 60k miles should be in good condition and comestically good inside and out. it should drive almost as good as a new car. if it's not been modded yet that's probably a good thing.

It may pay you to get an inspection done by someone like the AAA who will give you a full report on the car and tell you any defects. look for a full service history by a GM dealer.

Great advice from Andy!

Better yet, find a F-Body specialist shop [probably one of the sponsors here have a shop around ya.. ] and have'em look at it.. Or, if that's a long shot, try your local F-Body club and invite a couple of members to take a stab at the car...

The price sound good and it's def. a MUCH better buy than the high mileage cars you initially listed!!

Also, try to gauge if the seller might lower the price.. it never hurts to try.. the worse that can happen is he/she'll say *no*

why are so many people stuck on high mileage? if these cars are taken care of (oil changed every 3k) they can last well over 200k. makes 80 and 120k look low...

Id go LS1. Who really cares about the mileage anyway. If it was maintained 120k isnt a big deal and if it does grenade, low mileage LS1 shortblocks are so cheap it doesnt really matter.

good price, if you can afford it buy it

my Ex-Indiana State Police B4C LS1 has 151,000 miles on it and its best was 13.2@104 before a tune and a lid. (automatic mind you) my brothers car is also a former police car with 110,000 miles on it and it runs strong without any issues. an 80,000 mile LT1 WILL have more issues than a 120,000 mile LS1. and if anyone wants to say something diffrently keep in mind that i have the factory stock plugs/wires and whole factory ignition system still on my car. only thing that was ever done to the car was it had its rear end replaced and the water pump was leaking. LS1 owns the LT1 in reliablity.

depends on the body style you like most too. i prefer the 98 up camaro style versus the 93-97. yeah, overall it's the same, but i don't like the rectangle headlights, and the excessive pointiness of the front end. i prefer the look of the 98+ models. same goes for the firechickens too. i say ls1

High mile LS1's aren't bad if they were taken care of. Mine has 159k on the body and 60k on the motor since the previous guy did rings and bearings...Runs great, clean inside and out besides a few scratches and some scuffing on the ground effects. Interior is clean as hell. I've had it for a year and the only problem I have is a bent shift fork and just recently the a/c belt took a dump.

It's all just about how they treated that car. I wouldn't just get that 60k mile t/a just because of the miles...There's plenty of low mile cars out there that have been trashed and are worse off than that 100k+ mile cars.
