Question Free/Cheap mods?

I'm on a pretty limited budget. So I'm looking for the cheapest ways to get some more performance out of my LS1. I already have exhaust, but the air intake system is bone stock. What can be done to get some better airflow at an affordable price?

Is SLP any good? They sell the cold air kit for 299.

They also have the MAF for 189.

Does SLP make good stuff? I hear they are overpriced? What other options might I have?

What else can be done to get some more hp to the wheels? I'm a bit overwhelmed by all of the products out there...so many choices!

Well for starters you can do the "free ram air" mod. Go here for the mod.... http://www.installuniversity.com/ins...sity/index.htm then click on "install documents".

As for the lid and maf sensor... try Ebay rather than buying one brand new. You'll save some good cash !! As far as I'm concerned, a lid, is a lid, is a lid.... but others may dissagree. I have a TSP lid w/ K&N filter.

Hope this helps.

My opinion: Get a lid, any lid. Brand really doesnt matter. Some people complain about fitment of the lid, but I havent had any problems w/ my SLP lid.

Cold air kid - I dont see a reason to spend money on that, you will see little gains. But would fall in the every little bit helps. FTRA from fast toys is popular choice in that department.

MAF - Don't touch it, don't change it. I think you will just wind up with problems if you descreen it, or change it. And your tuners will thank you if you ever need a tune later.

How difficult is that FTRA kit to install?

And with the filter it's like 100 bucks cheaper than the SLP one....

I just want to get cheap guaranteed horsepower, using products that other LS1 owners have had success with.

You could save a buck and shave off all the baffles on the underside of your lid. Use a razor knife and then a little sandpaper to smooth it out.
