I get a combined 19 almost all the time. On long trips it goes way up. No v6 for you!

regarding the V6 vs V8. Dood, do yourself a favor and just get the LS1. unless your good with cars and can drop the LS1 in a V6 without relying on someone to do it for you (labor costs are a bitch) then i would stay away from the LS1 swap... but iunno
Agreed. 3 or 4 bucks and if You're easy on her you might not even have to refill as much as a v6. LS1's have a good amount of torque so it doesn't take much to get it going. This is really a no-brainer I think. I think v6's are more for people who just want the looks of an f-bod and don't care about going fast...or just dont know about the ls1. haha

well if you dont get premium your knock sensor will go off and retard yoru timing a few degrees. which takes away hp. why would you spend that much on a powerfull car to put shitty gas in and get less hp?

You will regret the V6, all of my friends who bought V6 mustangs and camaros did. All the ones with V8 cars, well, still have them, lol.

As far as MPG; both my camaros, one A4 and one M6, got the same or better milage as their V6 counterparts.

I had a 3.8L for my first car and it was good, then i traded it in for the 00' Trans Am and love it. I get about 19mg and thats with long tube headers straight piped. If your worried about gas then go buy a civic.

Default Torn! v6 vs v8.

Well as of now, I own a 3.8l 1997 Camaro with ttops, A4, power windows/doors and monsoon system.... I'm happy with it, but I always want one up. I'm thinking of getting a z28.

I paid $2750 for this car, it had 90k miles on it.
It now has $2000 of rear-end damage from some idiot, which I'm going to court over. It now has almost 98k miles on it... nothing aftermarket except an SLP CAI and a flowmaster muffler.

I'm thinking about getting the money for the rear and fixing that, and getting my hood painted to match (it's green, car is black) and then trying to sell it locally and looking for a Z.

I looked at the kbb value, private party suggested $4k, trade in 3.5k. I don't need a v8... there are no tracks around me really.. but I still want one.. I'm sure you guys know how it is.

I'm not worried about gas milage, or gas prices. I make enough money right now to cover that. At $7.25 an hour, 5 days a week. I only have gas/insurance/cell bill to pay for. Insurance is my main concern... I'm only 17 (18 in october) so I don't know if my rates will be high or not.

I know what you're going to say, get the Z... but I just don't know. Do you think I could pull $4k from the car, and what would a z run me with under 100k miles?

Your not gonna get 4k for it. Especially if its gonna be repaired. Why hasn't insurance totaled the vehicle, damage is half the cars value. Where do you live?

Unhappy

for me (18, 19 about 3 weels or so April 19th 1987) i requested a price quote from my insurance company i have now.

Upgrade from:
1994 Buick Century 6Cylinder, 4 Spd Auto, 4 door Sedan

To:
2002 Chevrolet Camaro SS, 35Anniversary V8, Manual 6 Spd, 2 Door coupe t-top

It was going to jump by only i think 16% which brought it to about 675 every 6 months, 1 wreck and totaled car, given i have no tickets on record except expired tags, no criminal record, good student discount, !good! credit, so clean driveing record helps a lot, plus i live in flroida which is a no fault state i belive
=-=-==-=-=-=

As for the car, it depends on the extent of damage to car and where you get it fixed at, if you have receipts of repairs and all that kind of good things, and what kind of year Z28 you are looking for...

4k after a wreck though is really puching limits, use autotrader in your area see whats selling around there. also with that much damage they should have totaled it, they totaled my car after about 1/4 of price(hit a birck overlay doing abotu 40 in reverse)

I have a 96V6 and a 00Z. For daily driving it really doesn't matter to me. I kept the V6 for winter duties since it's already beat up and Z is very clean. My 6 is pretty quick though. 14.3 stock internals before headers. I love the Z since it's much more powerful and looks way better. It's a toss up for pure DD duties though. If you don't get on it, you won't notice. I have problems opening the Z up since it gets up to speed so fast. So bottom line, I don't know what to tell you.

Well, at 18 i traded in my 93 3.4 V6 in for a 98 TA A4. The best thing i could have done performance wise. However it did hit my checkbook pretty hard. At the time i was making just a little more than you, and since i decided to start my own insurance alone, well i got hit pretty bad. My car payments were 260 a month, but my insurance was 395 Thats no typo... Add gas, food and going out with friends, and that quickly ate though my paychecks. Luckly a few years have gone by, i make a bit more money now ,insurance is now half that, car is paid off and gas.. well the only thing i can't change. What i'm trying to get across though is while right now your pay might seem fine, your still young, and with a car, insurance and what ever else comes up the last thing you want to feel is financaly stressed by the time your 19 or 20. If you can get a good deal on a Z or SS and insurance, go for it... If not i'd wait till you can find a job that will pay more..

Probably not what you want to hear, but at your income level and with the other bills you mentioned, the LS1 will end up owning you, not the other way around. Not that you couldn't do it, but there are a lot of fun cars around that won't suck you dry financially. You are young, don't waste it working full time just to own a car and make insurance ****** even richer. Go out, have some fun, save the LS1 for when you are older and perhaps married. The insurance co. won't rape you quite so much then.

Call the insurance company and make certain you can afford it.

Then if you can afford 'do it'. You can always sell it if it turns out to be a bad idea later.
