What a silly question. It's like asking, "Would I be happier with my right hand or with a healthy ****'s mouth?"

Agreed. The LS1 is raping my wallet....but in the end I think it's worth all the compliments and looks.

I owned both 02 firebird and now 02 t/a. the mileage is not that much better with the v6. I get about 18 city and 22 highway on stock 02 auto t/a. The power is a definite difference between the two. If you want power get the V8 or you'll get bored real quick with the v6

Dude,if you want to go fast then you wouldnt care about gas milage. The 6 isnt that much better in gas milage. The 6's i have had have never been good with gas.

Get an LS1...they are very efficient. I had a 94 V6 Camaro and didn't get much better gas mileage than I do now...
My DD is a stock 2002 A4 SLP SS and I average 15-17 mpg...and that's ALL city. If we take him on the highway, he gets between 22-25+ mpg. My 2001 M6 Z28 gets around 23 with a mix of city/highway.

Dare I say it? Get a different car. The V8 WILL cost you quite a bit more, initially and in the long run, than the V6, but you won't be nearly as happy with V6 performance. V6s can be made as fast or even significantly faster than a stockish V8, but that requires throwing money at it anyway, so I don't think it really helps your situation.

If you're looking for a nice balance between speed and economy, you have better choices than a V6 F-body... although they're mostly imports, if that matters to you. First thing that comes to mind is an NA (first generation) Miata... you can get one for half the price of a 98-02 V6 F-body, a well-tuned one will average around 28mpg (50/50 city/highway), and they're one of the most FUN cars I've ever driven. My best friend has one, and we often go driving together... and really light weight and relatively short gearing make those things move a lot faster than their power ratings would make you think. I annihilate him in a straight line, of course, but then I have to slow down for turns, while he just ACCELERATES into turns, kicks his tail out through them, and bangs his gears away all the way home. I top out 2nd gear and I'm already speeding everywhere but the freeway. There are downsides, of course, like only having two seats and no trunk to speak of, but it's just one example out of many fun economy vehicles.

Of course, if you're dead set on performance and are willing to sacrifice the money, GET THE LS1. You'll never regret it. And if you need to preserve your bank account, but just love F-bodies and have to have one, ignore what I said and get the V6 because it'll make you happy, and screw the naysayers.

Dang you only get 220 per tank???
I get 310-330 easy. thats not even trying to get good mileage.

Yea ,ill be a man and stick with an LS1. I thought about it and figured I might as well do it, seeing that gas prices will eventually be well over $3 bucks a gallon and a V6 wont make that much of a difference mileage wise. Plus getting raped like an ape in a V6 would leave me needing some serious theraphy sessions.
