Smile New to the ls1 seen

hi.

i just picked up a 1998 ls1 z28 tuesday.witch i happen to find on this website.im kinda new to ls1 im use to dealing with my old L48 carb 350 and my L98 350 tpi.

soon i will be doing a dyno just to see what shes doing be for i start modding . really hopeing for 275hp and 305 ft.lbs at the wheels .

first modds im going to get.

long tubes ,3 inch y pipe ,slp loud mouth muffler put some better rockers on the heads and toss a mild cam in.

any advice and tips would be a great help. im not new to cars at all but ls1 v8s are not the same as good ol 350s it is its own motor to my understanding.

Hardened push rods, and new springs to go along with your valve train upgrades

Sounds like your first mods are pretty good start, but you also need a Lid * intake * and I'd stay away from SLP products, including the loudmouth. The LM2 is so loud, ad in LT's and ORY's, and it gets so ******* loud its annoying as hell. It ruins a lot of the fun of having the car, you can't hear your passengers, you cant do quick bursts of wot without everyone in the tri state area knowing what's up ect..

*cough*scene*cough*

FWIW check out the internal section for what cam and heads to look at
For the LTs Pacesetter, or Edelbrock are good low budget headers (around $400 coated) or if you want the high dollar ones Kooks are considered good headers, along with Dynatech (they're stainless steel, so they cost a good bit), Loudmouth with no cats is going to sound like a SBC with blown out glass packs, and it'll be LOUD (and a cam will only increase the sound), don't know if you want that or not, just letting you know
Check out www.ls1sounds.com for some videos/soundclips of various exhausts and cams
And welcome to Tech

no they wont

yes i know that my ls1 set up that way would sound differnt. but it gives my the ideal of what the slp does as far as sound .because alot of the time mustangs are loader then camaros.more then likely i will use a magna flow muffler or something .

I installed slp loudmouth when i first got my car and it sounded awsome but ever since i put in the cam and lt's with ory pipe it got soo loud. I didnt even want to drive the car cuz of the drone that it created even with the windows open i could barley stay in the car for any amount of time. So i took it off and put on SLP 2OTL and its quiet now. I suggest you get a different catback and if it is to quiet put a eletric cutout on in. But than again you might be able to with stand the noise. Just my .02 cents. Good luck with the car

Since you have an auto a stall needs to be your first mod. Nothing smaller than a 3500 stall.

Stock rockers are fine, no need to replace them.

Go check out the internal section, and always use the search button before asking a question. You will find your answer much faster this way.

because its rated for 305 at the flywheel.i did not really think it would make close to that at the wheels. it should put down higher then normal numbers because of where i live tennesse makes for crazy times at the track when its dry and cold.

Yes, a LM on a 3v 4.6 will sound different than a 2v LS1. Simply put, two different engines, two different displacements and two different combustion/air flow will create a different sound.

GM rated the LS1 f-bodies at 305/320 because they didn't want it to be at or close to the Vette's ratings. The LS1 is a 350 hp engine, but RWP is around 300 hp. Typically, LS1's (Z28, Formula, T/A, SS, WS6, Firehawk, Corvette, GTO) will all dyno in between 290-320 stock, with the autos less and the manuals more.

do a good check on that engine, a compression check, psi checks, etc....its got a good amount of miles and seeing whats not going good can give you an idea of what youd want to do first...
