That sucks. I kind of feel your pain though. Although mine was nowhere near as bad as yours. When I bought my SS it was my first manual so I was wet behind the ears. Not even a month after I bought her the clutch went out while I was going uphill trying to shift into 2nd gear. It sucked. I later met a guy that also has a 2000 SS and he said he test drove my car but didn't get it because the clutch was about to go and the rotors were warped. I knew about the rotors but not the clutch. The guy I bought it from had her parked in his garage next to a 1995 Firehawk #32 of 100 limited edition. I think that's what he said. The guy knew he could blow smoke up my *** and I would believe him. Which I did. It's hard to find honest people anymore.

Thats why I never buy from or sell a car to a friend. Seems like the best deals always come back to haunt you.

GM factory warranty is 3year/36,000 miles. So that's out because your car's 8 years old.

Some cars are just unlucky.

How was the car maintained? I've seen cars that have low miles but the people who owned them never changed anything or if they did they used the cheapest they could find. Regular oil, regular 87 gas, wrong coolent, etc. LSX's like synthetic oil and run best on 93 octane. I almost bought a 97 LT1 WS6 T/A that had 64,000 miles on it. The paint was shabby but restorable, the interior was nice, and the fluids looked like they had never been changed. I bought my current car with 119,000 on it instead. The paint was nicer, the interior was about the same, and all the fluids were fresh...even the underside of the oil cap was fairly clean. The car ran better as well (not just because of LS1). It had been taken care of. That's why mileage doesn't have as much meaning as it used to.

I was always told they run best on 91 octane? I know a lot of places do not offer 91 in the US, but from factory isnt that the best for the car?

Im pretty sure the manual reccomends 93 only. Why would you accept any less? Its only like $2 more per tank.

Not everywhere sells 93 they only have 91 in some places. The owners manual says to use 91 octane or higher for best performance. Page 6-3 if you want to check.

I've never looked in a manual as I dont have an LS1 yet however if you run to high of an octane and your engine is not tuned for it that can surely lead to no good. Theres got to be a point where a higher octane isnt good for your engine (unless tuend for it). Dont tell me theres not because race gas cant be good for a stock LS1 . And Ya we do not carry 93 octane ANYWHERE near where I live. Just curious though, guess when I get my T/A in the next week or two i'll find out.

every gas station here in bama has 93 on the pump, and if you want to run race fuel you have to mix it with 93, half and half.

It is 91. 93 is just more common it seems. But i lucked out and have a gas station near me that is 89/91/93 so i can use mid grade which is only 10 cents more

The manual recommends 91, 93 is common use though. I wish we had it here!

ACTUALLY, the manual recommends PREMIUM fuel. but.... it can also run off of low and mid grade fuels. that's straight out of the manual.

Well where in KS 91 is labeled as premium. Thats the highest octane we have here except like 103, 105 and 110 at the race track.
