Easy way to tell is to have someone else watch the throttle linkage on the throttle body while you floor the gas pedal (motor off). Make sure the linkage is hitting the bump stop on the TB housing. If it stops short, then you may have too much slack in the cable, or a binding/blockage issue somewhere.

Yep...and the TPS should read 4.7v if your throttle body blade is
opening fully. My stock TB on my '00 Z28 was nowhere near being
openend fully. The bump stop mod was a great free mod in my case.

I'm pretty sure it's 4.7v. It's been 6 years since I've done it. Help me
out here guys.

Do you have an A4 or a M6?

Yeah, I think 4.7v is the highest you can go without setting a DTC. I think most people shoot for 4.6-4.7 tops. Mine showed 4.3-4.4, but the blade seemed to be at a 90 degree angle to the housing so I just left it alone.

I have a A4 with no traction control. My cable has lots of play too. Still would like to know what the fix is.

What do you mean by lots of play? Is the cable loose and falls off the TB lever?

If no then it's not cable slack.

When opening the throttle the cable will be under tension else the pedal would move and the TB blade wouldn't.

How far the TB blade opens will ONLY affect WOT accelaration and have ZERO affect on throttle response.

There is no simple adjustment to the thottle cable on the
non-traction control cars, AFAIK.

I just think it's strange when you put your finger under the cable, you get slack.
Most of the other cars I've seen are very tight. Makes you wonder why mines looseor how it got that way.
