I am about to purchase a lid and am going to be doing the free ram air mod...my question is......do i have to reset anything on the car when i do these mods....like will i have to unhook battery etc...or can i just do the free ram air, put the lid on and start up and go.......

 

Put the lid on, start up and go. You don't have to unhook the battery or anything. The PCM will "learn" as you go through mods. You can stay on a stock tune usually up until you get a cam. I'm still on a stock tune with all the mods in my sig, waiting for said cam.

i dont know if id mess with the free air mod....not much in the way of results, and it will get your filter dirty as hell

 

I would definantly do it. Once you do that it will make more power for every other mod you do in the future.

yea, this is an easy and free thing to do.. well beside buying the lid and filter.

 

So can you really tell the diff or is it not worth doing?

 

Can tell, the difference in a filter, or a sb? Every bit adds up, little or big, I say go for it, its a little bit less restrictive.

 

the free ram air mod is great if you like HOT air and reduced power.. with that mod you actually pull your air from down infron of the radiator.. monitor your IAT's and it will scare you.. and then youll learn to just shim up the lower air box..

you have to do free ram air mod to get a SSRA,Whisper cold air scoop or FTRA. I would highly reccomend a cold air scoop not just the free ram air alone

 

I would not do the FRA mod and didn't like what the
SLP CAI did for (to) my inlet air temps. FRA will draw
up hot air when idling / parked, heat-soak your IAT
and pull timing for several seconds after.

A good cold air setup is another matter but FRA is
not "good".

I think a lid and no chopping, but try and isolate the
nose space more from the engine compartment and
cut out as much styrofoam from behind the "nostrils"
(if it's a Camaro) as you can is a better way to go.

I hacked up my CAI to draw from above the divider
panel, via the "nostrils" and it fixed what that piece
was doing to the IAT readings. Not to mention a big
unshrouding of the radiator / trans cooler.

A non-SS hood should be looking to the nose space
for air draw, it seems like to me. Just need to make
engine compartment air stay out of it, and get more
fresh air into that space. Couple pieces of angle stock
for a heat dam, and a few minutes with a steak knife
(for the foam), good to go.

I thought about doing FRA mod and decided that the negatives outweighed the positives.

i did the free ram air mod, yea your filter is going to dirty a whole lot quicker, but i have no regrets doing it, then all you have to do is clean your filter!...does it make a difference, personally i really couldn't tell the diff.

 

Why do you guys not do the Free Ram air and add this? Guaranteed gains and fuel economy.
