Insurance on a 17 year old
#81
try to get on your parents policy...much much cheaper. me- im 18 and am currently paying $249/month, bare minimum insurance, no coll/comp. In NYS you can take a 6 hour defensive driver course and insurance companies are then mandated to give you atleast a 10% discount. Just took that yesterday so that should lower me insurance a bit; every little bit helps.
shop around. i plan on switching from geico to a local company within the next month. paying $249 a month is just rediclious; geico even told me that i would be paying the same price even with a honda civic

Im probably one the closer people that fit your description.
16 years old, male. Car is in sig. I'm paying $2450 a year under my moms policy with ( she has NO TICKETS, NO WRECKS, NO NOTHING). My first T/A which was an '01 non -ws6, red was totaled, not my fault though. Full coverage. I think $500ish deductible. Its alot of money, and on top of car payments it sometimes sucks. That feeling goes away the second you go for a drive. To me, its worth paying an *** of money for a car I enjoy as much as I do.
I probably broke every grammer/spelling rule, but **** it its late.
Hope I could help.

Here's my $.02:
It probably isn't going to be pretty any way you slice it, however it will be imperative that you keep a relatively clean driving record. If you get a ticket, it is WELL worth the money upfront to go to court and hope for a reduction (particularly in points)! I've had plenty of tickets, however don't have any points on my license or insurance, hence my rates have stayed at the lower level.
If at all possible, you'll want to insure the SS with another vehicle (as most companies offer a 15% - 35% multiple policy discount). This will likely entail insuring your car under your parents policy.
Finally, do a bit of research on this. Quotes are all over the board with the different companies. At the age of 26, my insurance company wanted $2,800/year to insure my SS. I hunted around on the web and secured a policy for roughly $1,100/year for full coverage.

No matter which way you slice it the insurance will screw you over.
I Pay every 6 months:
$400 full coverage on 2004 Dodge Ram
$300 full coverage 2006 Trailblazer SS with my wife as primary
$188 liabilty only on 99 GMC 1500
and a massive
$80 liabilty on mustang registered as 4cyl auto, but actually ls1-t56
Then again i am 22 years old and married with all of my vehicles and house with the same company. Both my wife and I have perfect records. Our company rewards good drivers so as long as our records stay clean we get a percentage off each year.
My $.02 is to keep your truck and build it the way you want it. My heavy dodge runs 12.9x pretty easy and it's a quad cab truck. That 1500 would be awesome with the right set up. Just take the money you would save on insurance and mod your truck.

my payments as an 18 year old were $100 a month for FULL coverage. mainly because i was only insured on my dads suv not the trans am but our insurance company covers any family member to drive any vehicle in the house, if you crash your rates go way up.

If your looking for cheap ins. go with safe auto. You can get 'covered' for like 30 bucks a month Don't except them to be there after you wreck it though.
I have a 00SS and I'm 24, I pay 167 a month for full coverage on my camaro with 1k deductable. I have a few tickets no accidents. I have everything though, if it burns to the ground, flood damage, local ******* doing something stupid to it ect...
I'm also the only one on the policy.
I use the hartford company. My rates will go down significantly on my 25th birthday, I can't wait!
