you are not crazy. its been done plenty of times. before the LS1, it was popular to do the LT1. some jeep catalogs offer a transmission and transfer case forthe swap, along with motor mounts. im sure theres a full kit available by this point including an ecu.

post pics ofthe swap, and keep an eye on the hybrid section. you can probably search and find all kinds of jeep projects.

what year is the jeep?

Sounds like a good way to replace the jeep power plant. Be sure to get lots of pics if you end up doing the swap. Good luck!

sounds awesome. and yes they do make some kits for it. my buddy is actually looking into dropping a ls1 in his jeep after blowing a head gasket, overheating, and melting a bunch of ****.

you cant do burnouts in a jeep, i had a similar experience on my 4.2L wrangler. shot the driveshot at the gorund so hard it left an inprint in the asphault.

There is always room for this option too:

I had a 97 Wrangler and considered doing an LS1 swap in it early spring of 2001, but sold it for the SS. I think that Energy Suspension makes motor/transmission mounts for such a project.

My '73 Land Cruiser (looks like a jeep, just stronger) does burnouts all the time.. Once my engine is in and running, there WILL be a burnout video taken either with the small "roller" tires, or on the 42's..

Regular iron SBC is quite a bit lighter than either the 4.2 in the Jeep or the Toyota straight-6, a LS1 swap would drop like 250lbs off the front end! That would be great..

if you need to buy an ls1/wiring harness basicly everything its going to cost you alot, close to 6,000 dollars

my swap is at about 4,000 dollars and i had an engine already. i had to buy wiring harness and adapters for it to work with my jeep transmission

motor mounts and transmission adapters all together were 620.00 wiring harness was 650.00 pcm was 100.00 i had to buy a certain bellhousing - 250.00 GM 10-spline clutch 500(kit) aftermarket fuel pump/regulator can get them around 200.00+ maybe a little lower. had to get ls1 shorty block hugger headers 250.00, custom exhaust is going to be 260 dollars - muffler cost 60(used borla) and all the rest of the money is to all the small stuff i had to buy (sensors, alternator,ac comp., power steering) and you will also have to buy a starter that does not have a cone nose to it

plus driveshafts will have to be redone, i dont know how much that will cost because im getting mine done for free (father works at an oil rig construction shop) - i think they usualy run 200 per shaft done at tractor specialty shop
also electric fan will have to be used - 200

www.novak-adapt.com is where i got all of my adapters - they will have ALOT of info soo check them out

also a thicker radiator might need to be purchased(im going to see if my stock 4.0l will work) if soo, thats going to be about 500

hope this helps! PM me if you have any questions i know everything about this install, ive spent well over 100hrs researching and preparing

Did you look into the feasability of off the shelf long tubes from a F body or truck?

I am trying to find out why off the shelf longtubes won't work on my IH Scout. I have 27" between the framerails, SOA, and the steering box is outside the frame
