Default Ticking from Engine

Ive had a ticking for about a month or so now and I cant figure out where its coming from. I figured it was an exhaust leak because it started around the time I swapped in LTs and duals, but I couldnt find it. It sounds almost like a card in a bike wheel and it increases with engine speed. Its mainly only noticable under load but if you listen close in the engine bay you can hear it if you give the throttle a short hit. Also when checking it out last night I noticed that at least 4 of my plugs are arching so Im going to have to swap them again this weekend. Im thinking this could be where its coming from, but Im not sure. Thanks for any help.

Mine did exactly the same thing, Turns out it was the metal cover on the sparkpulgs.

I had the exact same thing happen. I thought for sure it was a lifter or a bad rocker arm. Took it to three dealers. One said he didn't hear anything wrong. The other said they all sound like that. The last said rod knock. Turns out it was a loose spark plug. Doh! Oh, and of course that's what my wife said for the beginning. That made it even worse!!!!

The heat sheilds really caused arching on yours? I was wondering about that last time I was checking it out but I figured I was wrong cause they were there for a reason. I have a new set of wires/plugs to swap in this weekend so maybe Ill try it w/o the shields this time. Is anyone else running w/o shields?

Edit: I checked all the plugs and wires when I went in to retighten the header bolts but I bought a new set to replace the ones I have so Ill double check for them being tight.

LS1's are somewhat noisy to begin with. Sometimes long tubes can add to engine noise simply because they are not as heavy and thick as the factory castings. Not necessarily anything wrong, you just hear more.

Yeah I know they have the notorious sewing machine sound, but this is something more. I just noticed leaks coming from my A.I.R. block offs today too, so theres something else to tackle w/ the plugs and wires

Did you bounce the car off the rev-limiter listening to your new headers?

Nope didnt bounce it off the limiter and all the clamps have been tightened and retightened w/ an air gun. I swapped the plugs this weekend and havent seen any arching since, so thats fixed. Now all I have to worry about is the exhaust leak I found from the air block offs.

I didn't plug one of my plug wires in to the spark plug once and it had a noticable tick, so that could be your problem

If you have air coming from the block off plates thats most likely it. Get new gaskets and try again.

I had a tick, it turned out to be a loose spark plaug and wire.

If your AIR rube is spitting out air than that s you problem. The connections arent tight enough or your bock off plates arent on tight enough or the gasket needs to be replaced.

That **** happened to me and it ended up being my throttle linkage ticking against some metal.

I ordered a set of stainless steel block off plates from a member here to put on my headers instead of the home made ones (since the headers are stainless and I thought it would look good). Im going to JB weld them instead of messing w/ gaskets again and I was wondering how should I apply the jb weld. Should I just put it on the manifold and block off plate or should I still have a gasket between them? Should I cover the hole w/ anything or should I just put JB weld around the hole?
