Cool Drilling Holes in Air Box

A friend of mine has drilled holes in the top of his air box, does this help or hurt the airflow of a stock airbox?

Thanks
Eddie

Holes in the top of the air box???.....you mean above the filter? No, it's a horrible idea, unfiltered air will enter the motor carrying with it dirt and grim which will cause premature ring failure.

Tell your friend to join LS1Tech immediately so he can learn how to
properly mod his car.

just tell him to get an aftermarket lid, people sell them so cheap in the used section sometimes. and holes letting unfiltered air isnt a good idea overtime plus it just might cause too much turbulence and hurt airflow.

Actually, it will do a lot to increase intake airflow and increase power. Better yet, throw away the lid and filter for maximum airflow. And don't forget to descreen the MAF.

Why not just take the whole air box off? Be really free flowing, until you suck up a bird or something.

I just realized something.

evolution1971 - This guy, friend of yours that did this, what kind of car are we talking about that he did this to?

I'm thinking now it was not an LS1 but another car with maybe a conical filter and he just might have chopped/drilled the let more air in?

If not LS1 then fine, but on the LS1 the top of the "airbox" is an area after the filter and crap would get in.

Peace,
Craig.
