Engine Temp
has better thermal conduction but it's also about
the head design, the water jacket and so on.
(2) Thermostat is a 194F setpoint, nominal 180 or so.
So do not pay for a "180F" aftermarket 'stat.
(3) Fan settings control engine temp, whenever there is
not enough cooling airflow (idle, street driving) and
the fan settings are stupid high: 226 for low and 234F
for high speed fan turnon. Hello, ping and coolant
smell.
(4) The temp gauge is a hoax meant to keep you amused,
not to provide realistic information (except the '98s).
If you can run your fans earlier you can maintain a 194F
operating temp consistently and the car will like that a lot
better than 220+. The temp gauge will still lie.
