Lightbulb Best way to get 400rwhp NA

Ok It's all most been a year and 260-290ish rwhp doesn't cut the mustard any more for this 2002 ws6 A4. I want to go faster, but I have to work around my warranty.

How much power can these LS1 engines make? How much power is too much power before the engine starts breaking down?

I want to build my TA up to 400rwhp NA, really 450rwhp, and legally off of a $2500 parts and labor budget. To me any thing over $2500, I might as well put that money off to the side, wait until the engine gets old then get the ZL402 longblock(if street legal).

So my mod list was to get

>SLP lid & Black Wing filter 5hp-10hp
>SLP loudmouth 10hp-15hp
>Cam (how much do avg. installs run?) hopefully 35hp-55hp gain
>1.85 RRs (do I need them) 8hp-12hp
>ASP UD pulley 5hp-13hp (Is there anybody that had full bolt ons, then added the UD pulley? How much power was gained?)
>Maybe a ported TB( what are avg. gains) ??hp Probably not worth the money since I can't do the port work myself.

What is the best most powerful emissions friendly "Install, tune and go" cam that I can run with out needing to upgrade rods, valve springs and other components?

Will these upgrades get me to my goal are do I need a pair of Heads?

Ouch!!!! for 450rwhp I would have to be making 543hp at the flywheel that's why I need to stick to 400rwhp.

So any thoughts, advice, opinions, 2 cent, .02 cent, dolla, input, etc.

Replies will be much appreciated.

My friend with a huge cam, full exhaust, lid and ls6 intake made 370rwhp on a Mustang dyno. It probably would have made more but it spun a bearing and cracked the block. I don't think it would have went past 400rwhp though on that same dyno.

Well, I hope that didn't happen because it was making too much power.

lol no. i made 395rwhp with a cam and exhaust on a MD. now i got heads & a 90/90 set up and plan on spraying a 125+ shot on the stock shortblock.. just get a nice cam and torque converter and youll have a beast.
and your going to need new valve springs with a bigger cam then stock, and pushrods.. you wont see 400 rwhp with a stock cam, unless you go nitrous

Yes, you can get there with a big cam and full exhaust. I think you will also need a stall converter to make a big cam more driveable. Over 500hp seems to be the point where we start breaking things.

throw full exhuast and intake a converter and gears. then decide if u need more power cause your car will really wake up from those mods. then if u want more grab a cam w/ install kit

Hey Darren, you cant go wrong with a 224/224 cam. That with a 3200 stall in your car would be pretty nasty.

Since you have an A4 it'll be harder to make 400 at the wheels. And you won't get there with any resemblance of a warranty (what f body still has a warranty). I'd go with a 3600 stall converter, long tubes, lid, ported TB (even if you don't gain any hp the throttle response is worth it), and a tune. Once that doesn't cut the mustard you can go heads and cam.

Got 3 yr warranty up to 100k+ miles.

A cam is on my mod list, just got to make sure I match it with the right stall.
Unless there is Head/cam combo that avg 90-110rwhp in gains it is highly unlikely that I will spend $$$$ for any thing less.

LTs = leaks, emissions, reduce ground clearance so they are a no no.

The way I see it, is that I have to make an additional 157 flywheel HP on to of the stock rating to make around 380-410hp to the wheels.

And WTF is this lol

It's easy to do if you don't consider nitrous forced induction.

Well your probly going to want to get LT's to let the car breath which will help in your goal. Also, not all LT setups leak and you can get a catted y-pipe if your worry about emissions.
