Arrow "Another" Wheres The Oil Going?

I Have 2001 Camaro Z28 A4 With Magnaflow Catback. Now Every 2,000 Miles Or So I Need To Add An Extra Quart Of Oil. I Asked Someone Else Who has A Camaro And They Said Its Normal "These Cars Drink Sythetic Like Water," Is This True Or Like I Saw In The Other Thread (Reaons For The "Another" Part In The Title) Its Something To Do With The PCV Valve?

not uncommon at all for some of the ls1 cars, some eat it faster than others, you can try a different kind of oil it might help some it might not, you could upgrade to the ls6 style pcv valve, or you could set up a catch can if you dont want to burn it, or you could live with it because 2000 miles isn't all that bad to go through a quart of oil with an ls1 some people need a quart after 1200-1500 miles, or if you want to keep the oil where it belongs in the oil pan (as long as it doesn't leak) get an lt1

So Basically It Is Normal? Its Fine Though, I Buy 6, Put 5, And Save The 6th Quart For When It Asks. I Was Just Wondering Because There Were Lots Of Suggestions In The Original "Wheres The Oil Going?" Thread...

That may be part of your problem. The ls1 takes about 5 1/2 quarts, some people even put in 6.

But yeah, its normal. The simple way is just replace the PCV first, and then if it continues get a catch can. I put a catch can in after i noticed the oil in my intake while doing my camswap. - Since then the problem is solved, and i can go 3,000 miles between changes without having to add but maybe a 1/4 of a quart.

hmm. i go thru the same thing...but how many miles do you have on your car. i have an 01 z28 and just put 33,500 miles on it last night. also just yesterday i had to run and buy two quarts!!!! i don't even get on it very much at all. i normally change my oil every 3k miles. but usually have to add a quart or two before doing so.

LOL, good luck with that, my LT1 gets drunk on oil pretty good. The catch can stops some of it, but you still have to replace that oil since it's contaminated with gas and other fumes. At least it isn't going into the intake now.

that oil isint contaminated with anything it wouldnt be if it stayed in the crankcase. its coming straight from the vavles and rockers to the catch can. dump it back in. its not like its flowing through the radiator or somthing like that where it could get water in it.

Do you have a catch can? Take it out and take a whiff of it. That is not pure oil accumulating in there. It's a mix of all the vapors that build up in the crankcase, i.e. condensation, cylinder blowby etc. It's mostly oil but I wouldn't want to re-use it.

take your oil plug out and take a whiff of the oil that comes out. it will smell the same. what do you think happen to thoes vapors when the oil cools off? they condenstate and become part of the oil. that oil in the catch can has just had the vapors condensate. when you put it back in they are just going to vaporize again and become part of the "water cycle" that occours inside the crankcase. the only thing you are gaining by replacing the oil in the catch can with fresh is less money in the bank.

My 99 z28 with 68,xxx miles on the clock burns about .5 quarts of amsoil every 2000 miles or so, I Change my oil every 2000 miles or 1 year so I don't see a problem, but thats just me.

Just delete the pcv system and add a breather.
