C6 Z06 rear end?
I've tried doing a search and couldn't find what I'm looking for. I got an 07 Z06 with CAI, MAF, 160 stat. Thats all (so far). I also just purchased 315/35/17 BFG DR and fixin to take it to the strip. Next month, I'm getting headers/cam which should put me around 530rwhp. Couple of questions since I'm a newb:
1. Do most people, should I, wait till the rear end breaks before upgrading?
2. What type/brand of rear end would be "best"? I want it streetable, but wanna take it to the strip alot. (12 bolt vs 9", where would I find one?)
3. I'm guessing I'm going to need a roll cage soon too if I hit 11.49, where would I find one of those to get installed?
Sorry for the newb questions and thanks for any help!!

Im sure you can find a sponsor to put you a roll cage in it..
As for the rear end, check out some of the sponsors a bunch of them have rear ends not for sure if they have them for a C6 ZO6 but they might...
But i think the rear end should last you a while, its your clutch you need to upgrade 1st

thats actually a very good clutch he has....theyve been built and people use them to 700hp, people use them now in ls1's, ls2's, and ls6's...
there are a few sponsors who can sell you cage kits, but machine shops can rig you up one...
a 12 bolt is going to have more parts available...the rearend you have isnt exactly weak....but tsp and some other sponsors have rears

1) How big is your wallet?
2) no such thing as overbuilding
3) What environment is your car? Track/drag/street/weekend cruiser etc etc.
If you want to take it to the drag strip often, on slicks, or if you never want to worry about blowing the thing up(excluding wheelhop), get a DTE stage 5.

10 bolt? 12bolt?
That z isn't an f-body. You do not wan't to go about completely changing the style or rear end.
DTE (Dynotech Engineering) is your only viable option for a corvette rear-end. Unless you change your mind on the "streetable" thing and turn your new z06 into an all-out hardcore drag car.
Stage 5 is expensive. Unless you have plenty of $$$ to throw around you could probably be alright with a stage 3 or 4, especially if you're going to stay N/A. and under 600rwhp. Definately splerge the extra $400 or so for a differential strut brace from DTE as well so you don't have to worry about the damaging effects of wheel-hop. But if you can afford it, the stage 5 is an awesome piece. And if you can wait, DTE is developing an all-billet rear-end. The stage 5 has only a billet right-side cover I believe.
Congrats and welcome!

since i posted this, i found some good stuff on C6 Z06 rear ends (http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1334493) but i'm thinkin my car has the "upgraded" CV joint. Some people have had success switching out to the C5 joints, but I'm probably going to keep what I have until I can pull the trigger on that DTE stage 4 or 5. I am eventually wanting 600-700 rhp, so I'd like a rear end that can handle that (since i'm a newb driver, my rear is going to have to make up for my lack of driver skills till i get better). Thanks again for yalls help!!

But for now, running mid 500s, you rear will probably hold up pretty well. After all, the output shafts are stronger than that of a c5, because the c6z already plants so much power. In fact, DTE stage 1 rears for c5 now have a c6z left output shaft.
Nice ride.

I would at least get a DTE brace for now. You can actually brake the transmission mainshaft and the boses where differential and tranny bolts together. Why destroy both peices? Also, a destoyed rear isn't worth anything for a core.
DTE, or RPM transmission is the only two I would talk with.
Here is a pic of one of Rodneys C6 differentials on a C6 with a cooler, and his C5 display unit that I just got from him and just now put it under my car.
