Question power tune??? WTF?

What is a power tune? what does it change to get more power? I have installed headers and an off road y pipe (ORY) and some one told me I should get a power tune to get the most out of my new mods. What exactly will a power tune change?

They're saying you need a tune, as in changes to settings in the computer such as timing, fuel, and transmission control for example. A tuner can also delete codes so that the SES light will not be on due to having an off-road y-pipe. If you plan on adding more mods to the car soon I'd say wait on getting a tune. It's not called a "power tune" by the way.

What you really want right now is a torque converter. That will put you in the 12's easily.

You are now letting more air flow in and out, which has altered your air to fuel ratios some. You can get more bang for your buck with a tune by bringing them back in line as well as tweak a lot of other things.

Dyno-tunes can be expensive. Like 400$ for the first and some do 200-250 for tunes thereafter.

I would consider your long term goals before you do it.

LS6 intake, stall, cam/heads?

There are alternatives like hand helds, mail order tunes, etc. Just do some research. Whatever you do though, wait until you're done (but are we ever? hehe).

Or get HPTuners (or EFILIVE, etc) like I just did and do it yourself anytime you want to

i'd rather pay someone about half that and not have to learn how to tune and get it done right the first time just my opinion

Lets put it this way! My car is pretty much stock besides the mods in my sig. I dyno tuned it yesterday and gained 18.5rwph and 15tq. just from the tune.My car was running very rich and the timing was off a little. The tune takes care of everything plus shift points if A4. Get your car tune, its worth every penny of it,I paid only $350, I couldnt believe the difference, now my A4 burns the tires all the way through 1st and 2nd, you deff. need a tune with your mods!
