Not a newb, but got my LS1

Finally picked up an LS1 car. Some of you may have read my other posts. I traveled from Iowa to Colorado this weekend to pick it up. Its a 99 Z28 with 59,6XX miles, M6, leather, ttops, everything, completely stock. Interior is perfect aside from a little wear on the drivers seat which is to be expected. Exterior has some rock chips on the hood (also to be expected), a couple of minor dings, and some paint missing on the fender well. I was a little hesitant about buying the car with that problem but I did drive over 8 hours to look at it. I got the car for $9300. Also, one of the aluminum hoses for the AC has a hole in it. After I drove the car I told the guy it didn't work, so we tried to put some freon in it and it sprayed out of this hole. He hadn't ran the AC for over a year I guess. It looks to be an easy fix. The compressor did kick on so we know it works. I am wondering if some JB weld or something would fix it or should I just get a new line? Either way I am happy with the car. It runs great, got 29 mpg on the way home driving 85 mph most of the way. Another question I have is what should the car idle at? My old LT1 idled around 1000 rpm on the stock tach. My Dad's 98 SS is about the same, maybe a little lower. My new car idles at 750 rpm on the stock tach. Is this about right? I know tachs are off a little but this seems a little lazy. I don't know, I'm sure it is fine. Heres a few pics.

Heres the small paint peeling I am talking about. The guy bought it this way he said and he was the second owner at 23k. Would this be a big deal to fix? It wouldn't have to be perfect because you can't really notice it until you are right on it. Any opinions?

So finally, did I do ok with buying this car? Was the price decent and everything. Thanks guys. I am happy to be an LS1 owner.

For the AC I'd just go ahead and replace the pipe, especially if it's on the high side of the system. It's open to the atmosphere now and at the very least it'll need need to be vacuumed before charging anyway. Idle doesn't seem that low, but easily checked by putting a scanner on it to double check the tach reading. Enjoy.

The idle sounds about right. I don't think you have anything to worry about there. I'd replace the AC hose instead of trying to patch it. How did he get a hole in the aluminum line anyway? that seems a little odd unless he hit it with a tool or something by accident.
Are you sure the paint is peeling and it's not tar or something on there? If it's peeling he must have driven through something corrosive to eat away in that spot. This might sound a little redneck, but I'd get some touch up paint and see if I could fix it. Since you don't really notice it as it is, even if it's not perfect it will be much less noticeable. If you don't like it when you're done you can always bring in a professional at that time.
Anyway, looks like a nice car. Congratulations

There is a steel line that runs next to one of the AC lines. I think it is something for the EGR. The AC line was touching that and the hole must have formed from the heat. I am guessing I can get the line from a dealer. Hope it doesnt cost that much.
As far as the paint thing goes, I am going to have an estimate done sometime this week. Hopefully it wont be too much to get touched up.
Then I need to start saving up for some mods. The car is much too quiet so I think exhaust will be first. Probably get a lid at the same time.

As far as the AC goes, what will happen if I don't vacuum the line? I am not sure how to do this and don't want to pay a ton to have it done. Will it not work right if I don't do this and just add freon? Also, will I have to add oil to the AC system? Thanks

It already vented to atmosphere, so no need to have it vacuumed. Have you tried some peanut butter or tar and bug remover on that paint area? From your pic, it looks like something on the paint. You'd know better than us. Nice car. Hugger orange? My 99 TA idles around 750 or so, sometimes lower.

The car is Red. The paint has peeled off some how. I wish it was just some tar or something like that. I am going to hopefully get that fixed sometime this fall.

If it is the manifold line I hope you have a lift, it's a pain in the ***. I had a hole in mine when I bought it and I changed that. I thought the same thing to about my compressor, it engaged but the piece of **** doesn't work. It has the same pressure on the high and low side with the freon in it. So now I have to get a new compressor, dryer, and orfice tube. This will all have to wait until after my heads/cam swap. Congrats on getting the car though

with 59,000 miles, yeah that's a good deal. I paid 14,000 for my 2001 ss with 60k on it, and that was after looking for a good deal for over a year.
The idle is fine, M6's idle higher than the A4's. M6 is 750-800 rpm idleish and a4's are about 500 rpm idle.
