Does it the same hot or cold. Car has 80K on the clock, and runs great. Any ideas or is this just a characteristic of the LS1's? It's a noticeable noise, you can hear it plainly when you are beside another car or are standing outside the car.

exhaust leak possibly. Still running manifolds? Bent pushrod would tick regardless of RPM I believe.

he sold the mustang and bought the camaro. It definitly had some piston slap going on. 2000's are noted for it and i have one that does it too. I have had over 30+ f-bodys through my shop and only 2 have ever made that noise, mine, and his. His was really bad as it never goes away, where mine is only present for about 20seconds and then its gone. Its nothing like the valve noise you get out of some of these cammed motors either.

Yes, Andrew is right, I sold the stang, bout a month after i got the Camaro. And yes, it was severe slap, like people would look and be like Jesus, fix that car. And to top it off, I'm a tech at a Ford dealership. Long story short, Bought a motor from Andrew, slap is no more.

Indeed my friend, you can hear my slapping in my 2000 from 50 feet away at a cold start LOL.

My nephews' Formula had the same noise. Put Castro Syntech in it. His noise went away and my z28 has never made the noise.

yea mine makes the same noises! its normal...some are louder than others but still normal! just keep an eye on the oil pressure and if there were somethin wrong it would steadily get louder as time goes on!

ah, our good 'ol friend mr. piston slap. my '02 w/ 89k miles does it hot or cold, worse when cold obviously. Gm fixed in the caddys by replacing the pistons with new units utilizing a teflon coating on the skirt to keep the owners happy. The slap noise has no effect on engine performance or durability. Just keep changing the oil with M1 or better, and run the hell out of it.

Does it sound like my tick? I don't know what to think about it. It's done it since I bought the car. It's stock except for the muffler. Everythign works and no SES light and it runs like a bat out of hell. I'm not to worried but the sound is obvious. My oil pressure sits right on the 40 when warm hot or cold out and maxes out around 60-70 at WOT. Also when cold it starts around 45-48 psi and setttles to 40 when warm.

anyhow, I noticed all the ones I was looking at made the same noise, so I wouldn't worry. Good luck at th track man

I thought the same thing. Most people on the boards slammed me, saying something was wrong. But the weird thing is that I was destroying both PI and NPI cars from my area? Then it came to light. My Average D/A is around 3800FT. Most stock PI cars run around 14.9-15.0 here. I have a friend that has a '98 NPI with only exhaust and SCT, usually runs 15.30's all day.

Altitude is killer.

And to think, the LS1 is running 12.9's here, I need to move to sea level.

I had a new edge, and when I got this car it was a night and day difference. I had an MGW shifter, O/R X, Spin Tech Prostreets and gears and it was still slower than my A4 Z-28....

Here's a couple vids of my old stang....

I had a noise in our TA when we bought it, i thought it was a simple exhaust leak sounded like a header ticking. Bolts where tight, the whole exhaust system was tight. The noise didn't go away when reved either though, this noise got fast as the engine rev'ed. I even took it back to the dealership since it had a limited warranty they put a stupid *** rocker arm on it WTF.

I decided to put a cam in the car cause i wanted to see if the noise was a bent pushrod or stuck lifter. I got the heads off and was looking around and the previous owner obviously knew this noise was there i get to the lifters the whole one side is brand new. I was like

So i slide the cam out and i find that my stock cam was coming apart on one of the back lobes. It looked like a dog nawed on it, swapped cam's and the noise stopped.
