Loud belt sound in engine bay
The last few days when my car has been idling, my belts have been whining more than usual. When I sit at stoplights its loud enough for me to hear in the car. Usually they are loud for a few seconds on initial start up but then quite down but not for the last few days. Could it just be the cold weather or does my car have a problem i should get checked. Fan belt looks to be in good condition.

hey yea mine does that to. Its started recently like back in October before I put my car away for the winter and if I start it up it'll still do it and whine like a **** for a good 5-10min once it warms up it seems to go away but ive always wondered whats up with that is the belt going bad or something?

If you say whine my current Formula had that while and it was the idler pulley. A way to test and see if its the belt or a pulley would be to get some belt dressing or any kind of lubricant and spray it on the belts while the car is running. If it goes away or goes down in sound its the belt. It not its one of the pulleys prob the idler. If it turns out to the belt get a goodyear gatorback belt. My Vette has just started to do it and a few of my previous LSX cars have done this as well.

I had my car in for work back when it was under warranty, they put a new belt on it and I swear a handful of silicone grease, a lot of grease. It never made noises before.
Now it just started again but probably because I washed the engine, it sounds like a bird chirping. You can check easy enough, just spray something on it, WD40, water anything and see if it stops. This will eliminate any pulley problems. My belt has about 25,000 miles on it, no cracks, not dry rotted. Either got to change it or spray it.

Mine does it too and i think its embarrising(spelling) I deffinitly will try to fix it some how this spring. One time it stopped after i went through 1st-3rd gear just for fun, then i noticed it stopped, but if i go to start it up so someone can listen to my car and it makes that noise i would probly feel crappy.

if it isn't the high pitch whine that last a while then it could possibly be a belt tensioner..but you should def do what CJDZ24_Z28 to find out what it could be...
