Run a carfax on it or call SLP and ask them if its an SS.

Open the driver side door. Look on the RPO codes for WU8. If there is a WU8, it's a real SS. If not no SS.

thanks (The Guz, davered00ss) for your fast replay.

i ran the vin number on carfax and showed that the car is not camaro ss

but thanks to you guys now i know

please can you tell me what is the difference between SS and Z28 in terms of (power, suspension, everything)

Because the one i found is (2001 camaro z28, SS body kit and rims, manual 6 speed, T-top.)

so what are the differences?

thanks again

Pretty much all you're missing is a different suspension IIRC. Slightly thicker sways and springs.

If you want to be a purist about it, go find a real SS. If not, buy the clone. it's not really any different.

um it just depends if they have the slp package on it if they dont its just a hood, spoiler, and rims. If it does i believe it will come with like a lid (5-10hp) and maybe a different gear ratio? 3:23 (not sure)

dont take my word on it because im not 100% sure but even if it does have that your looking at extrerior improvements and 10hp max so unless the exterior is that important its probably not worth dropping 5g more on an ss then a z28 for mods that you will probably do yourself within the 1st year

buy the ss if your enthusiast.. if not.. go for a clone.. less money.. the ss MIGHT have 5 hp more.. but you can never tell... all cars are different.. if the ss was beaten on and the z wasnt.. the z would be stronger... they are all about the same.. plus... that thicker sway bar will be coming off anyways.. haha.. hood and spoiler are the major differences.. o yea and 2-3 grand

another problem

the gear shifter is heavy (not smooth) when i try move it in inorder to engage gears, it is heavy and hard .... but the clutch padel is smooth .

is that okay with camaro's?

if not
so what do you think is the problem with the transmission ??

Did you look inside the door at the RPO codes like mentioned above? I am pretty sure that my SS came up as a Z28 when I ran the carfax on it before I bought it.

As far as the shifter goes. Does the shift **** have an "H" on it. If so, then it's the optional Hurst shifter and it should feel a little knotchy. That's one of the things you get with performance oriented shifters.

The H on the shifter means it is a Hurst shifter which the SS's did receive so it could be real or somebody coulded have added one. Open the drivers side door and look at the stick with all the RPO codes. If one of them is WU8 then it is an SS and also if there is a Y2Y option that means you have added SLP options. There should be another sticker below the RPO codes that will tell you what SLP options if any that you have.

i checked the car today, and yes it is an SS ..... i test drove it it is good and fast but the rpm was slow compared to my previous car (97 cobra)...

maybe because there is a blockage in the catalic converters because when we checked the car on the computer, it showed a problem in the O2 sensor.

anyway the car made my mind

but i want to ask what is the R&P ratio on the 2001 SS?

I say same some money and go for a Z28 and use the extra cash on the car.....
SS might have 5 more hp if its slp one but you can buy the lid for about 80 bucks anywere and suspension youll just buy better one for your car and a drop....
well they only go up to 6200 RPM

I bought a Z-28 because I didn't want to spend what people out here were asking for a Camaro SS. Most people are going to update the suspension anyways and you could always add the hood and spoiler if you like that look.

Just don't put badges on it aka clone it. If you have to have an SS buy it and don't settle you'll never be happy. Also if you are finding all these problems or " issues " with said car look for another. Don't rush into buying it thinking you'll never find another. I'm telling you, you'll regret it in the long run. Good luck
