Is it Worth upgrading SLP Blackbird to TSP or Whisper Lid?

Same filter element? When I did my driveway flow
testing, the lid was negligible pressure drop
(except for the stocker, which was terrible)
and the element was like 0.5-1" H2O depending
on make. I only looked at paper elements, the
Donaldson was best of these but only by a little
bit (I use the Purolator cheapo that came in
second best). But I bet a mesh filter would be
a further improvement.

You can see that peak torque was almost the same, but beyond 5000 RPM's the TSP lid looks like it made about 5rwt more all the way through redline.

Considering the SLP Blackwing makes just as much HP and TQ throughtout 90% of the RPM range, spend your money elswhere. I see no reason to upgrade in my opinion.

Look at the RPM range again, the big gains is the same RPM range you would use if you took your car to the track. 90% of the time you'll be in the RPM range where the lid is making more power. The other 10% would be your burnout.

I didn't know there were people who don't go over 4000rpm except diesels.

However, if you were serious, and surely you weren't...think of it like this...
The TSP lid cost ~$129...it shows a gain of 6rwhp or $20 per rwhp...this is about as cheap an upgrade as you'll find for an LS1...if you really can't see how that's worth it...you really should sell that SS and get a v6 mustang or a Hunda

I still say it depends more on the filter than
the lid and without knowing that, you don't know
how much credence to place in the results. If the
SLP Blackwing used the Blackwing paper filter that
comes with it, and the TSP used a K&N or whatever,
you're comparing the filters and the lid has less
to do with it.
Kind like the flip side of K&N's advertisements
where they used to put the stock lid & filter up
against their filter in an aftermarket lid, to
make the best appearing gains. There, the lid
accounted for most of it (as the stocker is lame).
Only TSP would know this little experimental detail,
and I guess they'll talk if they wanna.
If it were a straight-up comparison then the TSP
would be +6HP against a lid that was advertised
as a +10HP option itself. So if you hadn't already
sunk the money, it'd be $129/16HP (more or less).

So what filter was used for the test? Good point. The same filter on both test?

The TSP lid cost ~$129...it shows a gain of 6rwhp or $20 per rwhp...this is about as cheap an upgrade as you'll find for an LS1...
also, the old lid can easily be sold for $50-75. $30 if you're desperate...but the number of emails hitting your box at $30 will be unbearable.
so the investment is $129 - sale of old lid = pretty good!

That SLP Blackwing lid you can probably get
more than $50 for, since it's sort of "factory
correct" yet rare. They sold for like $349.
Ought to be able to get enough for the TSP
or whatever other one you fancy.

That makes 6rwhp less than a $129 one? How
