Default Street Friendly Exhaust

First I want to mention that I've tried the search feature and stickies and LS1Sounds.com and still havent't found my answer, that being said.

I live in Bay Area, Ca and the city I live in has almost no crime so cops have nothing to do. My previous car was a 00 Mustang GT that had stock manifolds, Pypes O/R X-pipe and Spintech Prostreets.

I always got compliments on it but the cops here sure weren't fans of it. I want a nice crisp sound that isn't extremely loud. I have been on LS1Sounds and some catbacks are hard to truely tell what's loud and whats not.

If you guys don't mind, can you post up your combos and how loud they are on a scale from 1-10 and if the cops have ever bothered you.

ive never had any issues with cops and my setup but it can get loud. If you want something quieter then try just putting a magnaflow catback on. Once you put LT's on it get louder regardless of what you got after them

Borla catback with split tails -driver side through muffler -passenger side strait out with a QTP electric valve cutout at the start of the passenger side tailpipe. When open straight through and I guess that would be a 10 on the cat-back loudness scale. When closed all exhaust went through muffler and was say a 4-5 if stock is 1. All stainless setup but will set you back about $800+shipping with the cutout.

Now the rod bearing is an 8!

so far i've had a few different setups all tied up with my borla catback.

Stock w/ borla closed - 3
Stock w/ borla open - 7
Headers & ory w/ borla closed - 4
headers & ory w/ borla open - 9
Open headers - 10

i'm sure just about any other catback w/ a cutout would be about the same, some a little quieter, some a little louder.

I have Flowtech headers and SLP cat back... Its not over bearing in the car but outside it has a nice rumble. If I were you I would get a exhaust system that you like and have the shop put a few silencers in then buy electric cut outs for when you want to make it really loud

yep what he said
magnaflow is fairly mellow. but with the cut outs it has an adjustable
volume level.
like really loud

Borla is sweet
For comparison with it closed all the way at 6K is just as loud as it is at 2500 with no plate

As long as its street legal, They cant write you up for anything.. Right? I've been pulled over several times in my camaro, and the same thing always happens.

Officer - (first looks at my inspection sticker) Did you gut your muffler or take off the catalytic converter?
Me - Nope, Magnaflow cat-back system and catalytic converter.. its street legal.
Officer - (looks under the car) Have a nice day.

technically changing anything on your exhaust is "not street legal"

If only it was like that everywhere lol.

The majority of people that get harassed for exhaust in my area are ricers with their stupid fart cans. Which is funny, because they deserve it and their cars sound like **** anyway.

Get an SLP dual-dual.

Second solution is the magnaflow. loud as hell @ WOT, but pretty tame at idel or cruising.
