I'm in Chicago and run Mobil 1 5w30 year 'round with no issues. No noise, and no issues with low oil pressure. It isn't rocket science unless you're trying to make the oil. If you just want to use one, pick one and use it. Many people will offer their opinions on this so it makes it tough. As people have said go with what fits your climate, and what YOU find makes you happy and keeps your car running well.

10W-30 an absolutely useless oil. It's roughly the same viscosity at operating temperatures as 5W-30. The only difference is really at startup. 10W-30 freezes at a lower temperature, making it junk in colder climates and it offers less startup protection because it's thinner. It does nothing but hurt to run 10W-30.
In the case of Mobil 1 (which I would strongly recommend you DO NOT run), the 10W-30 is THINNER than 5W-30 at operating temps, so you get worse protection under normal temps and worse protection at startup (the most harmful time in an engine's life since it's oil-starved) and in cold climates.
I strongly recommend German Castrol 0W-30. That's what I run. If you can't get that, I'd run Castrol Syntec 5W-30 as that is what I have in my motor now (long story of how it got there), but it's been, actually, an awesome oil - no engine noise and no burning. My motor drank Mobil 1 5W-40, which is supposed to be their best oil Mobil 1 is

Recent rounds of testing for GC-0w30 show the latest batches to be just as good as the old stuff. Excellent wear characteristics and holds its weight at temp.
Mobil 1 10w30 and 5w30 are BOTH terrible oils in the sense that they WILL thin to a 20 weight oil at temp.
Royal Purple has also shown this characteristic and has added detergents that are more aggressive than regular synthetics. For RP, use the XPR line they have for oil. Not the regular RP.
Penzoil Platinum has shown decent wear characteristics in recent testing.
I would avoid Redline for the simple reason that they are not API approved unlike every other oil manufacturer.
Amsoil would be a good choice for oil as well.
