i kicked around this cam thing for a long time before i bought. donkey dick cams have thier place- on the track.
i would have went bigger if i had a 6 speed 220 or 224-224 but giving up torque on the low end is fuel mileage. you have to look at what it doing at 1500-2500rpm. a stall kills city mpg and i do quite a bit of that.
i read all the time on this forum it's a DD but it's rare i hear a cammed stalled car on the street.
i read for many hours deciding on a cam some small cams make bigger torque numbers than big cams of course thats at a lower rpm about 4800 for a small one 53-5500rpm for larger cams if you are keeping the stock 6000rpm rev limiter it's no big deal. where the small cam is king is low rpm the torque differnce is huge.
so after months of debating with my self i picked up the old hotrod mags again 10-07\11-07with there 6.0L hopup. 4 crane cams and the gm hot cam. a 210\218 on a 114 out torqued a 232\236 crane the bigger cam made more HP ,i do not care.
so i put a 210\218 on a 112 in it crane Z cam 531 lift in the car w\ patriot golds slight chop had to desenitize the misfire monitor a bit fuel trim totals never exceded +or - 3 total. felt the differnce pulling out of the drive way throttle response is much improved. a 20mph punch which before would be a hard bark going in to 2nd gear has now become a hell of alot of wheel spin its a night or day seat of the pants differnce.
sounding like a crane commerical it's not small cams don't suck. it's not for beginners they work well for cars that are truely DDs in this age of $4.00 gas. i have picked up between .3-.6 tenths mpg since the install and i have to think it will get better when i quit testing the power
