Get Lts. Shortly will be a waste of money and flow almost the same as stock manifolds. I dont know what the gains are with Lts but I can sure tell you my car picked up ALOT by switching them and pulling off the cats.
Do your self a favor and get Longtubes some guys with 6speed cars pick up around 20+rwhp by doing so

shorties suck compared to long tubes. but the down side with long tubes is the "smog" issue? so if you dont got to worry about smog then go ahead n get long tubes. i suggest Long Tube Pacesetter Headers. like said b4 long tubes will really make your car sound bad ***. will make it sound like an old school muscle car!!! love that sound. and then even better with a cam.

Long-tubes are much better.
I use shorties, but they are stainless steel and have equal length primaries.
I'm pretty sure the only ones made for F-Bodies are the cheap mild steel, uneven primary ones. Barely better than stock manifolds.

WOW! ok then longtubes it is!! The only problem is that i DO have to worry about emissions is there a way to use LT's and still pass emissions?? Like with high flow cats?

I just bought some Hooker LT's with all the emmisions ****...and a Pacesetter Y pipe.....Just installed them today (took me 6 hours for a complete install)
The pace setter Y pipe is a direct bolt up to the Hooker long tube headers...I already noticed a huge gain.

yeah.....i'm in cleveland...they are ****** about it. For example if i was registered in wakeman or even canton i wouldn't need an e-check (and those two are only a half hour to 45min away). So i'm just tying to go the safest, smartest and somewhat cheapest route.

Yes you can from county to county in OH. I lived near dayton at Beavercreek and they had e-check bullshit there. And yes the long tubes are supierior in every way but ease of install (you also loose a little torque but gain more HP as a trade off). If you have a visual inspection you will fail every time bc relocating the cats is a no-no. If it is just the smog probe in the exhaust then you may be able to get away with a catted Y. Hell if you don't just go get it inspected with stock crap then get home and swap it out with the long tubes.

Oh and don't be expecting HUGE gains off just a set of LTs. You'll get about 15-20 which isn't too big of a difference but definantly worth it. I put in my QTP's and actually thought it felt a little slower bc of the torque loss but I know it is faster and I get more power as I add mods. Remember to open up that intake too!! If your still stock I'd get a lid and get your throttle body ported or replaced with a better one. If you don't you'll probably only see about 12 HP gain bc your intake of air can't keep up with the exhaust.

There are three types of emission testing. First thing to do is find out which one they do in your area.
1). OBDII scan only. If all they do is plug in a computer and look for codes then you're fine. You can even get an ORY as long as you have someone with a tuner program make it so the computer doesn't throw any emission codes.
2). Sniffer test. If they do actually hook up a hose to your exhaust pipe then you can still be ok if you get a catted Y pipe. It's a little more expensive but it's well worth it since the LT gains are huge.
3). Visual test. This one will kill you if the inspector knows what to look for. There is a federal law that states you can not relocate cats. Since LT headers push the high flow cats further from the engine they are by definition illegal.
You've probably heard the saying "it's not what you know, it's who you know". Many people here have inside tracks on "friendly" places that tend to pass cars with LT's and big lopey cams. The three best places to "possibly" find the name and address of a friendly place would be:
1). Local track. Ask some of the guys there with faster cars and you might get valuable information.
2). Closest performance shop. Ask about buying and paying them to install LT's and an ORY or catted Y. But voice your concerns on passing emissions. This often results in valuable information being offered to you in exchange for your business.
3). Local street racer hangout. Although I do not participate or encourage street racing, this could be a good place to learn where they all go to get emissions passed.
Good luck.
