Default Mixing different brands of oil?

Same weight but different brands. I just put 5qts of mobile conventional in and need another half qt but I only have another brand of the same weight. Is it ok to mix just for a bit?

it may not hurt you this one time but i wouldnt make a habit of it... different companies use different ingredients... anyone should be able to tell that just by looking at it... compare regular valvoline to something like pennzoil and you should right off the bat be able to notice that the valvoline is alot cleaner looking... looks almost like brake fluid and the pennzoil looks like recycled toxic waste... if you make a habit out of mixing all kinds of brands of oils it can over time cause sludge buildup from the different ingredients reacting with each other... so just use common sense and stick to your fav brand

Duder's funny. Pennzoil Platinum is actually a very good oil for an LS1. Rated just under the German Castrol.

I'd never use dino oil, except in a rotary...breaks down to easily IMO, why worry about changing the oil every 3k miles when you can have the option to run to 5k?

Besides, you don't see any of the top fuel dragsters, or any of the racing teams using standard oil

You may mix brands, but its not advisable to mix weights ,5/30 with 20/50 for example.
You might find some interesting reading on my site www.synthetic-oil-tech.com/1262175.

-Thanks

I use royal purple synthetic 5w30 and dont lose much. Most of my loss comes from a leaky front main
