Default 01 Z28 SS VS. 02 Z28....any difference???

Is there any difference in the 01 SS and the 02 Z28 camaro. A guy I want to race has a 01 SS Z28 and is telling people that his engine is more of a performance engine. This guy hasn't done anything to it but replaced the O2 sensors and lowered it. I tried to tell him stock for stock there pretty much the same. He doesn't even have the SLP model and still talks alot of smack. One more thing.....he switched from a 4banger which was a celica to a LS1. What a big jump for him.

IF he checked every single box from SLP he may have the center exit exhaust, Bilsteins, SLP lid etc. Not to offend the SS owners, because they are awesome cars, but most of the SS package is appearance, granted there is the few suspension/wheels/tires that may help performance.

they are the exact same engine....GM advertised the SS as having more power mainly because of the optional exhaust and hood scoop (which is probably worth 2 horsepower at 140 MPH)

My car is an 02 Z28 A4 and I have a SLP lid, LT's and Corsa exhaust, and I hang with my buddy's 02 SS M6 with a lid, SLP Y pipe, Borla exhaust, etc... You'll be neck and neck probably, but judging by the mods in your signature, I bet you edge him out.

It's just another guy repeating incorrect information that he has heard and it's a common misconception. The engine is the same and so is the power output (more or less).

The SS is way faster, it's the super sport!

or the:
super silent
snake slayer
super slow

All joking aside there are SS packages are there that will literally whipe the floor with a Z28

Here's an example: The fastest STOCK if you will SS: http://gmmginc.net/programs/ZL1/
http://www.automedia.com/2000_Berger...ts20010801bc/1
http://www.bergerchevy.com/CamaroSS/CamaroSS.htm
http://gmmginc.net/programs/IntimidatorSS/
http://gmmginc.net/programs/Berger/h...rams/TomHenry/
http://gmmginc.net/programs/PerformanceEd/
http://gmmginc.net/programs/HotRod/
http://gmmginc.net/programs/Harrell/
http://gmmginc.net/programs/Blackbird/

Yes some SS are faster but very few and far between. Even the normal SLP ones have a normal kick.
But if it's like mine, I think I got a susp. upgrade and the apperance package and that's it. Oh also I got the hurst shifter or **** or whatever from the factory.

It's been a year since he had the car and he still hasn't taken it to the track. Can't get this guy to race me for s**t. I know he won't race for money so I'll race for bragging rights. All he wants to do is talk trash just like a ricer.......done enough talking during the winter. What to do for this guy to run me???

Didn't know that. I thought you had to order the SLP package. Didn't know it came with all of the SS's.

SLP is the company that made them an SS vs a Z28, SLP installed the extra (or simply different) components that made an SS an SS vs a Z28.

Here are two RPO stickers. One is a 2001 Z28, one is a 2002 SS.
Both are almost identical except for the SS options.
Can you tell which is the SS and which is the Z28?

Yea like my SS. No special options, just the basics to make it an SS. It was sent to SLP to have this done. I called SLP and they told me when my car arrived and when it left, and what was done to it when it was there.

My god, please try a search on this topic. It's been beat to death.

In terms of stock power, Z28 = SS = Z28 = SS, any day, every day. Period, the end.
