Default hypertech tuners. worth the price???

can some one exsplane what these tuners are good for. i have a hypertech power programer on my 99 camaro right now beacuse the guy gave it to me when i bought the car but now im thinking of selling it and geting a hyperpack thing its this thing that will tell you you horse power and give you live read out of engine read outs like air temp and oil pressure and it does other cool stuff. it says it will give your car the hypertech tune but what does that mean? i have a air intake and flomaster muffler on it. sould i just get it dyno tuned. how much does this run and were can i do it??? doesnt your car automaticly compensate for better air flow? im really not worried about power, i have enough of that, but more about MPGs. i really want something that will give me live read out of my engines running conditions. is there any type of computer program thayt will do this so i can just hook my lap top up to it???

Well unless you have an auto i would say go ahead and sell the hypertech. I have one and i mainly use it to turn the pressure up on the trans when i go to the track. As for adding power when i got my car dyno'd it showed 301 peak power with or without the tunner, but gained up to 3 horse power in other parts of the rpm range. The MAF system will compensate for the increased air to the intake.

Don't waste your money on either of those units. If your gonna get anything, get REAL tuning software like HP Tuners, EFI Live, or LS1 Edit. The hand-helds are very limited on what they can do, and cost almost as much as the software that's MUCH better.

www.hptuners.com/

www.efilive.com/

I personally use HPTuners and love it, but I hear awesome things about EFI Live too. They're both expensive and there's a bit of a learning curve, but if you want to do anything more than a gear change it's the only way to go.

If you are planning more mods on your car then HpTuners or EFILive are definitly worth the cost. You will spend more money on multiple dyno tunes when you can just have one up front cost.

I refuse to pay $400 for each dyno tune. Your dyno guys are ripping you off. It should be $400-500 the first time then a lot less everytime after.

In full agreement! I have HPT with a wideband on my car and love it. the ability to change anything in the PCM and having the data logging software to diagnose anything and everything in the car makes it completely worth it!

Yeah, You shouldnt be paying full price every time for each dyno tune,

As far as the question, HP tuners takes alot of reading time and such to learn the program, Its VERY detailed, if you dont have the time, I would just get a PCMforless.com tune or something of that nature... ESPECIALLY IF YOUR NOT PLANNIN on modding anymore..

Get a local tuner to tune/dyno your car unless you really know what your doin.My local tuner only charges $20-50 for any small changes to a tune,$125 for a complete retune not including $75 for the dyno time. Its really a small price to pay to know your car is runnin as good as possible.
