Chromoly vs Mild Steel
I am looking at Spohn SFC so I wont loose ground clearence. They have two versions but I am not sure if the $100 is worth it for the chomoly. How much tougher is it?

Chrome Moly is lighter usually as well as being stronger. It is all a matter of preference, I would get it just for the sake of being lighter and stronger. (Especially when dealing with SFCs.) The Chrome Moly is probably 6 - 7 Lbs lighter and 10 - 15 percent stronger . You decide if it is worth the money.

Go with the boxed steel ones. I went through this last year and it was a $100 difference for about 5.5lbs. There are cheaper ways to lose weight. And it is not stronger when they use thinner metal to compensate for some of the extra cost. Plus you can jack on the boxed ones.

The only reason Chromoly parts are lighter, is because they are thinner. The material itself is no lighter than steel. If the parts are dimensionally the same, length, width, thickness, they will weigh the same.
Its a stronger material, so the parts (tubing esp) can be made thinner.

from what i understand chromoly is stronger but more brittle. it doesn't bend or twist like mild will. mild can bend a lil with out problems where moly would snap or crack. i prefer moly myself. i have the boxed sfc's and they only hang down like maybe a half inch lower than the pinch weld. your y-pipe will prolly hit a speedbump before your sfc ever will fyi.
