Default Buying a High Mileage LS1 - What to look for?

I am going to look at a 2000 Z28 with 160,000 miles on it. Car looks beautiful in the pics - owner says it runs fine without any issues.

What are some basic things that I should be aware of and looking for? Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Andrew

Drive it and see what you think. Check for anything, leaking listen for weird noises. Check the fluids and ask about your findings. Look the car over well, inquire about anything you find thats out of place. Make the owner aware that you are aware. More stuff you find the better the price may be.

Is it a auto or six speed? Check for oil leaks in the rear diff, the back of the trans, bell housing, oil pan, timing cover, ect.

The car is a NBM Auto with leather, power everything, TTops. Interior and Exterior are in great shape - really looks more like it has 60K rather than 160K.

Guy started off asking $7,800.... offered it to me for $5,800. Car was bone stock 2 months ago. Seller recently added Pacesetter Longtube headers (jet coated), Y-pipe, new Optima Red Top, AC plugs, MSD wires, SLP lid and K&N filter, along with new Z06 chromies / tires.

If worse comes to worse, I think I could part the car out break even at the minimum. Thoughts?

Take it for a ride if every thing feels good go for it. I paid $1,800 just for my black z06 wheels and 4 new tires, and every thing you listed the seller did is about $1,000. So that $5,800 is a good deal if you ask me.

Well, just bought my 98 LS1 Z28 for $700 and the waterpump was bad and that was all, so they seem to be pretty stout motors...
