does the alternator whine all the time or only when its going bad? just wondering because i dont have AIR anymore and i hear my alternator whining. i know its the alternator for sure

I never heard an alternator whine just the PS pump.

i had a bad whine that was caused by the a/c compressor. Pulled the belt off = no more whine! Time for a new one.

the only accessories/pulleys i have is crank, waterpump, tensioner and alternator

i removed my power steering and A/C. i dont have AIR anymore either. but im getting a slight, quiet whine. whining increases with RPM's. alternator is the only thing it could be

could my alt be going out or do they whine always?

The AIR pump function is to heat up the CAT fast when the car is cold. If the noise stops shortly after startup, like a mile or two, then that is what your noise is.
