My plan was to do ls6 intake, and send out my tb this week....the ls6 intake got fucked up in shipping, so we are trying to resolve that ****. Then in like 3 months after saving (trying to buy a new dd), getting some ARH lts and duals. Then the month after that, drive my *** 3 hours to get it tuned.

Ok, Ive owned a few Firebirds in my time, but this is my first A4, so I have a couple concerns. She's an LS1 Formula with only 50k, bone stock.
Ok, this may sound childish, but I cant break the tires loose from a stop! She feels like she may be bogging down, but I dont have a TC button, and I dont see the module thingy near the battery. After the bog, she picks up power and runs like a raped ape, but still feels like its holding back at launch. I havent tried power braking, as I'm not trying to drop the tranny out right away. My last LS1 was the 6 speed, so I didnt have these issues. Is it just the stock power is too low, and maybe after some mods I'll get the tire screeching launches you need every now and then to justify your existence ?

Yeah, I can stand on the brakes and smoke the tires.
So gears seem to be the overall consensus? I'll have to see if I can find someone in Reno who can do it for me. Thanks all!

temp/humidity also has a huge factor, i live in texas so we are pretty low sea level, it was a little chilly out this morning and i could tell my DD carola was even quicker with the lower temps.

5000 feet...trust me, that is a big problem. I'm at 4600 feet, and cars I should whoop *** on, give me a decent run sometimes. In Tucson at around 3k feet, my car dyno'd 262 hp, 303 torque on a mustang dyno uncorrected. High 13s at the track are fast for stock ls1s. So altitude is a huge factor, especially that high up.

the car your racing is also being affected.. so you are both slower.. emanging they would give your a run no matter where you are at in the world.. not just wher eyou live... wow

2.73 to 3.23 is not a huge difference at all...
does it even chirp or slip at all? There might just be something that needs attention, I dunno though, I've not driven stock f bodies extensively
but for what its worth, when I had 2.56 in my car and went to 3.08, not much changed in the tire spin department, and it didn't change much more when I added a 700r4 and 3.42 (this would be the equivilent of 3.73 in first gear with the old transmission) on good pavement
on bad pavement it would spin through 1st anyway...
more importantly, you shouldn't be wanting to spin anyway

GEARS, go with 3.73s! and you dont have to worry about the 10 bolt unless you put slicks on the car and lanuch it everyday. ive been running mid 11s with 1.7 60' on a stock 10 bolt withg 4.10s and a 3600 stall for a while and the previous owner was too. car has 118,000 miles on stock 10 bolt with drag radials. gears are pretty inexpensive and you will be able to feel the difference.

Say may I agree with everyone about the gearing but just to make sure you are burnin premium right? cause when I first got my Camaro I put regular in it and it did the same thing and I have the 3.42 gears in mine, but then again when I had regular in it it ran horribly in general

To the OP: You may want to look into a dyno tune. With my stock 3.23 gears, I can roast the 275s even with the TCS on (so you should at least be able to spin the tires fairly easily at WOT, even with 2.73s).
Just my .02

So heres what I think it boils down to:
Last LS1
Lived at sea level
Only gets 91 octane
Prolly had at least 3.23's
New LS1
Up in the mountains
Lived on 93 octance
Prolly has 2.73's

sea level might have something to do with it but i think there's something wrong with your car. my car had 2.73's stock and i could roast them all the way through first and into second on bad pavement, on street tires of course.

I bought a wrecked but running 99 SS. Tried some burnouts but bogged then flew just like you described. Thought it might be traction control. Turns out someone had removed the MAF and IAT sensors! I didn't know it would even run like that! Check for codes.
