I wish I had an Extra Lid to do it Too, some how I feel bad by Ruinnning the originality of the Car. I still beleive that in 20 years LS1's are gonna be what 60's Muscle is today, ans just as sought. So I wanna keep it mostly original and keep spare original parts if I do decide to mod it.

This site tells you exactly how to do it. I did this mod because it pulls air before the radiator not after.

just open up the front of the factory airbox. You know, that long thin slot it draws the air in? I opened mine up with a mini hacksaw, including the tray inside. make sure to leave the center support and enough material to support the filter for a good seal. I also use a K&N because its not as thick as the paper filter (more area underneath), almost doubled the size of the opening and doesn't get dirty any quicker than stock. There is plenty of cool air where the factory inlet is.
