I've reused header gaskets, water pump gaskets and the front cover gaskets several times with no leaks on all of our cars

pulled up to work yesterday morning and within a few minutes i had a dinner plate size puddle of antifreeze on the concrete. i have new gaskets but the others were only a few months old from the cam swap so i just left them on the back of the pump and bolted it back together. it was about a half gallon low when i filled it before driving home. so i guess im pulling the water pump back off.

Our meetings usually take place at the track which is closed at the moment. Hopefully in march we'll be back in business. We do have some get togethers every now and then though. As far as seeing more cars, I'm not sure where the big hangouts are on the weekends now, but they used to be at the Shreve City shopping center or the Hobby Lobby. Haven't been in so long cause of the idiots that would show up and ruin it for everyone. Nice T/A by the way. It's actually about time for me to have another cookout. I got a ton of chicken I need to get gone so I can free up some room in the freezer.

Steve, I remember you cleaning the surface. Wonder if there might have been some dirt or something get on it before you put it on? At first, I thought you were gonna say the timing cover since we had to flip it.

no the oil leak has officially stopped. this was straight coolant dripping from the front of the oil pan/timing cover but all the hoses were dry so i assume the culprit is the water pump gaskets.

yeah we should do the cookout soon.

Do we have any updates on when the track will reopen? I read in another area that the owner for Royal Purple bought it. That is good, maybe they can turn it around and make it more than just a TNT. Not that I dont like that, would be nice to see other races goin on besides just Pinks once in a blue moon.

Should be around early-mid march. The owner of RP did buy the track and is spending a but load of money on updating the track. Should be a great track afterwards and be here for a long time.

Sounds good.

As a reward for all my suggestions, do I get special treatment?

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I pulled the engine from the Volvo yesterday. Separated the transmission from the engine, replaced the rear main seal in the "new" block, now it's time to start putting all the new parts onto the "new" engine.

new rear main seal

Uncle Rob's engine crane

lonely engine bay

look at this cute little torque converter!

background information.

I bought the car in 2004. It's a 1997 850 GLT, had 150K on it, and I paid $3800. This is the 2.4, LPT model.
I put on a 15G, bought an Upsolute tune that I bought used from a guy on the Volvo board, Samco Hoses, manual boost controller, home-made 3" turbo back exhaust, other little silly ****. Basically all your used car stuff. It ran a 14.4 with CamaroBradl in the passenger seat, and a speaker box in the trunk. Fun little daily driver.

I popped a head gasket about 2 years later.
Installed a new head gasket, timing belt, (no tensioner or pulleys that time) but a bunch of other little expensive ****. I didn't know about the "pull down tool" that you're supposed to make to pull the cam cover down onto the camshafts. I used the bolts to pull it down. This was not a great idea. I ended up having to tap ALL the damn bolt holes from 7mm to 8mm and replaced the bolts with larger ones.

I decided that 13 psi was too much, turned it down to 11. BIG STEP DOWN HUH?

2-3 years later the car developed a coolant loss that I couldn't track down. I guess it wasn't leaking enough to pool under the car, the oil looked fine, no huge amounts of steam coming out of the exhaust either.

As I couldn't find the leak, I just kept adding water/coolant and driving it. Eventually the leak grew to the point that I was able to find it. A cracked block. Damn.

Through the Volvo board, I found a guy selling a 2.3 block out of a 98 V70R. He said it has <100K miles on it.
I now have the appropriate block, injectors, ecu, camshafts, and turbo to build a stock 2.3 hpt car. I also have another head and cam cover that I'm going to use because I'm a little afraid of the head I already had. Tapping the holes to 8mm is as far as I'm willing to go. What if I strip one? I don't think tapping them much further is possible.
I'm going to put the boost at 12 psi and leave it the hell alone.
My goals this time: Comfortable daily driver, dead *** reliable, decent fuel economy, "pretty peppy".

Here's what I've got in my kitchen!

PM sent.
Here's what it said if anyone else is interested in it or the parts:

I'm going to sell my Camaro in the relative near future.

I'm pulling as many of the performance parts off of it and putting it as close back to stock as I can first. I'm also going to have to replace the block.

It's an 01 Pewter Z28 with ~40K miles. Manual transmission out of a GTO, built by SixSpeedsInc before they went out of business. Transmission has fewer than 400 miles on it. Triple sincros, brand new gears except for 4th, $1800 worth of labor, not counting the GTO transmission.

If you want to come see it as it sits, I'll take some off for the bad block. I'm not going to give it away though.
