I currently have a 2002 Camaro z 28. It really doesnt have many mods done to it. It has 3.73 gears, air lid, and corsa cat back. I really want to run nitrous but I dont want to kill my car. I have had a lot of people tell me it will be fine but I want to hear form you guys. You are the experts. What should I run if I should run it.

 

Don't feel alone, there are many people that share the same concerns. If I can give you some words of advice, they would be start out small, get used to how it works and what it does. Also pick up on reading as much as you can about nitrous...most of the time, when accidents do happen its generally because of nitrous being used improperly or not following advice and instructions.

I would also recommend taking all of the appropriate steps towards making the system safe and consistent. Items such as a window switch, lean/rich shut down switches, nitrous filters, etc. can all be used to your advantage and help prevent potential problems. With what is done to the car you could easily get away with a 100hp shot with no problems. What you could do is get a single nozzle system, and pair it with a window switch ( which will allow you to set activation and deactivation points for the nitrous and depending on which one you get you can also get a TPS feature as well ) and a FPSS > Fuel Pressure Safety Switch < ( The FPSS will allow you to set a point on the fuel side and if the car drops below that set PSI then it will interrupt the ground to the system potentially saving the motor ). It would also be in your best interest to get a bottle heater because nitrous does work off of pressure but it isn't a 100% necessity, but is very nice to have. You will also need to change the plugs out to a set of NGK TR6 ( stock # 4177 ). Depending on mileage you may also want to possibly upgrade the intank pump ( for that just in case scenario ).

Im in the same boat as the OP. Mine is a 99 ss and i'm thinking about spraying mine. The only thing that I am worried about is I already have 138k on the motor. Would I be pushing my luck? I would probably stick with a 75-100 shot.

 

Not if the motor is still healthy. If you can't do it yourself have a few tests done. Compression, leak down, etc. In its present state, does it burn any oil?

 

The car still runs amazing. I dont loose but a half a quart of oil between oil changes at 5,000 miles. I havn't done a compression or leak down check, but I could do one.

 

i say do it, i have HSW wet kit no problems so for i spray it weekly. we have some great sponsers on here that stand behind there products

 

As long as you're not trying to spray a stupid amount you'll be fine. I have 123,000 on mine and put a 125 shot to it. No problems, still hasn't used any oil from the last change. You'll be fine if you start out with the 75-100 shot as people have said if you do your homework. It's not rocket science, just listen to the sponsors that answered your questions, get a kit from them and they'll make sure you're safe.

Call them and discuss if you want a wet or dry kit. In my opinion for a 1st timer a dry system is easier, especially if you're not wanting a big shot to it but there's guy's that hate dry systems. Just figure out what's best for you.

 

ok, thanks to everyone that helped me out. Im going to do it this winter. Then next spring I will be ready to spray the old LS1.
