yeah it blew the hood 100ft in the air. it blew the whole dash into the guy.

it cracked the cars winshield behind him from the procussion too..

you realize there's still fuel pressure on the solenoids even with the fuel pump off, don't you?
do you think the fuel system magically depressurizes every time you shut the car off?

This is a good reason to have a stand alone fuel pump, so there is a return line to bleed off any fuel pressure.

im thinking if fuel was "spraying" into the intake, it would cause the car to crank for a while because its flooded out. The nitrous would go bang instantly because its sitting in the intake as an extremely volitile VAPOR that will ignite very easily, and blow things up when it has no where to go.

It had to the the NITROUS solonoid leaking. Gasoline is NOT that explosive. IF gasoline had leaked into the cylinders to such an extent, it would not have even ignited before it HYDROLOCKED the motor and bent a rod or two. But such an explosion would NOT have occurred.

The vaporous N2O is highly explosive when in contact with the gasoline from the injectors and ignition system upon engine start-up.

How to keep it from happening? The ball valve is a good idea. Also, always open the bottle only when the engine is running. If the engine RPM increases your N2O solonoid is leaking and you can shut the bottle valve.

i always shut my bottle between runs, but then again i check both my noids evertime i spray (i only spray at the track).

i had this happen to me a few years back. lucky i only blew one piston into the pan.

i am a fan of nitrous and boost. over the years i have hurt a lot more things and had more close calls with nitrous then boost. in fact the worst thing i have ever done with boost only is push some water or kill a head gasket. with nitrous i have killed 2 pistons, torched a hole in an afr225 head, broken an intake and cought my hood liner on fire.

now that i think back on things i am not such a fan of nitrous.

damn you done some ****. now that i think bout it i blew 1 piston out. spun a bearing, my boy blew his motor all on tnt kits. im going to direct port or plate kit

Yeah, I thought nitrous oxide wasn't flammable, lol. So I guess the N2O just did what it's supposed to do in the engine, but did it in the intake manifold? Like stupid fast oxygen ignition?







I'm glad I saw this right before I sprayed my car for the first time...

i wouldn't think that just the nitrous would cause all that but you never know. seems more likely they were both spraying and he had some kind of an electrical problem rather than just one noid stuck open.

If the nitrous solenoid is leaking, filling the intake tract as soon as you crank the injectors are going to introduce fuel making an EXTREMELY LEAN conditon and a massive explosion as such pictured....
